Is this the antigen test used on Governor of Ohio yesterday, which showed a false positive???

The White House uses...... rapid corona virus tests made by Abbott Laboratories

They require a small (but VERY expensive) machine to analyze it. Quick, but not cheap or easy.

Sorry guys, I do appreciate all your informative posts but want to pose my original question once again: is covid-19 Rapid test available anywhere in cabarete, sosua or puerto plata?
I need to return to DR as soon as possible because my house and car were damaged during the last storm, and I will feel much more comfortable if I know that it is possible to get tested as often as possible. Even if Rapid test is not available, PCR test would be fine too as long as the results are timely. Thanks

I'm sure I already mentioned that blood tests are available at Puerto Plata Labs in Sosua across from Playero. ~$1800 is the cost I believe.

thanks for both responses. Actually, this morning, I sent an email to my doctor's office in cabarete and asked them if the blood test in Puerto Plata Lab is the antibody test that will show past infection or it detects current infection. I will let the board know as soon as I get a response from him.

I just received an email from the doctor's office that the blood test in Puerto Plata Lab in sosusa is antibody test and does not detect current infection. Unfortunately it doesn't help my situation

here in Punta Cana we get the PCR test done by La Referencia. results are available online within a few days.
try to look up on google aLa referencia Lab in your Cabarete Area(I am not familiar on that with your area).
our tests by now all been coveered by our ARS Humano Insurance.
if you have a DR Medical Insurance, drop a whatsapp or phone call to your Insurer, they tell you the nearest Labs locations for yoru area.
thats what we did for the first round of testing.

You can get tested at Referencia Lab in Puerto Plata; they do PCR test and come to your home to get the sample.

CORRECTION: Got another email this morning from the doctor's office that the blood test at Sosua lab detects current infection but it is not as sensitive as PCR.
Confusing....unfortunately my Spanish is not good to call the lab and ask them directly.

That test, from all that has been posted, sounds like a rapid test. Thing is the people in the Sosua office don't have the equipment for tests. Office is tiny. They probably send all samples daily to Puerto Plata for all types of tests; reason why reportedly it takes about 48 hours to get the results of the covid test they perform.

I think you are correct, because the email also mentioned that the result will be available at sosua office the next day and if I want the result the same day then I have to go to Puerto Plata.

In this country deliberate herd immunity would be a disaster. The hospitals are already full and cannot treat the number of sick people seeking treatment. Why deliberately make the situation that much worse?

No - herd immunity is a good thing.

Those who can not build an immunity in the herd are the ones with problems.
The body of a young person is pretty phenomenal.
They adapt to dirty environments and bacteria and heal injuries quickly when hurt.
As you age you realize how nice it was to be young. As you get older (past 60) cuts take 3 times longer to heal, and you bruise easier and tire faster.
If I were 20 again I would have absolutely zero concern about the virus.
As it is even at my age I have little concern - but for certain my immune system isn't what it was 50 years ago. That's why I have a line on hydoxchloroquine

"The number of confirmed cases depends on the completion of PCR tests. Even the well-off in the Dominican Republic have to wait to get tested or get their test results. There is a long delay in cases pending for results and the tests carried out.

For a shot at a free PCR test, people queue for hours at the Laboratorio Nacional Dr. Defilló in Santo Domingo and then have to wait for more than 10 days for results."

The ability to perform CV19 testing in this country is nothing short of scandalous. The DR is not the only country which is failing its people when it comes to access to reliable and quick testing and subsequent healthcare treatment. Just about every measure taken here is more ineffective than helpful. It's all done purely for optics rather than for any sound medical or public health reason. When you have to detain more than 90,000 people for violating curfew clearly the message is not being presented clearly and effectively. Individuals have to control the spread of this disease. If they will not do so because they do not want to, then the wildfire of contagion will continue.

Certainly the curfew should be followed, up until there is another extension then I say enough is enough.
You can only corral wild horse so long then the break down the rails.
I was in the paint store the other day and it was unbearably hot and they were taking forever to assemble my order.
I had to run outside and tear off my sweaty mask to breathe.
You think having that sweat collect around your mouth and nose is healthy ? What about that humid dank air you are re-breathing.

No I prefer to take my chances without a mask, staying away from barrios and large groups or any smokers or coughing old fools.
But this mask thing is just an exercise in crowd control.

There will never be enough testing anywhere.
At least until testing is no longer needed.

As for the curfews, people will only be contained for so long. The social experiment in containment has proven that.

What will the new guy in charge try to do? Let us see. We will know soon.

No need to bash the bureaucracy that is producing and making sure the tests for CV are safe and as error free as possible.
There is no need to look for a politician to "help". I trust the medical research professionals.

ran out of time to respond, here is the rest.

Everyone wants the fastest most efficient testing to get us out of this pandemic.
Russia has fast tracked a vaccine that is being tested on the general population.
China is a little better and has fast tracked a vaccine that it its testing on its armed forces.
For myself I will wait until there is a safe thoroughly tested vaccine.
This is the fifth test that the FDA has authorized using saliva testing.
Seems to me the FDA and the CDC are doing all they can as fast as they can to work at defeating the disease.

Here is the latest as of August 15.
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) to Yale School of Public Health for its SalivaDirect COVID-19 diagnostic test, which uses a new method of processing saliva samples when testing for COVID-
