I think the curfew requires both the Senadores and Diputados to first approve emergency powers for the president. Then the president can set the curfew as he wishes. That is one reason why the Diputados told him June 1 was going to be the end of emergency powers and not to ask for more.
exactly.
one of the given extra powers due a State of Emergency, is that the government can place a curfew, without asking anybody else for approval.

From what I just heard on CDN:

Curfew is now 7 PM to 5 AM Monday through Friday, and 5 PM to 5 AM on Saturday and Sunday until June 1.
At least I think it was both Saturday and Sunday for 5 PM to 5 AM.. I see someone mentioned it could just be Sunday that starts at 5 PM

Many businesses , like hardware stores can now open.

The business sector seems to have had a partial win on forcing things to open this coming week .

Here’s a quick synopsis on the Presidents address, but best to read in entirety the speech. It’s on varios FB and IG government pages .

Phase 4 of 'la gran apertura" is conveniently coming to a head 4 days before the elections. No one saw this coming

I listened to the Presidents speech and for the most part it was excellent and responsible..... we do have to start somewhere, this is a good start for the new phase. It will be important to watch closely the reduction of new cases . or an increase in cases during this first opening phase. Also locations of any changes, one way or another.
In the meantime ''baby steps'' and caution.... gotta love DR !

:devilish:
All of this social distancing is going to cause some nice spikes during the reopening phases, and perhaps much longer than that.

What do people think will happen here if the President tries to get more emergency powers and shut businesses down again after June 1?
(I won't be able to get my chalk, for example )

Like you, I fully support the "new normal".
People should only be allowed to live as
their Government says they can live.

right,
but then you could ask your family here, as they would know.

Many of those fretting right now are not concerned about family members here, as for the reason you mentioned above.
Their true preoccupation is that their novias, or in some circumstances novios are spending their Western Union money on other things besides food/rent/meds, and what it is they are actually doing during those open hours of the toque de queda when they can't answer their WhatsApp calls.
Ay chi-chi.
