Unfreaking-believable. People are so sick. That powder/drug basically turns you into a zombie.
If this happens to a Dominican imagine what happens when they target a clueless gringo.
This is very "popular" in Colombia, used a lot to rape women too. The powder comes from a flower, forgot it's name.

There were some things on the news about this "powder" a while back. I remember the videos and it showed the person who was "blowing" the powder in the victim's face had a covering over their nose and mouth. It was so the person would not be affected by any of the "blown" powder. This video does seem strange.

lol, this is pure theater!! So, he can handle the substance without being affected and she is instantly rendered a zombie, lol, it makes for great story telling, however.
So first off we don't know if this is indeed scopalamine or not that this guy used on this chick but I've heard from other people anecdotally that folks here are cautious about even accepting flyers or business cards that are handed out on the streets for fear of being drugged and kidnapped or otherwise abused.

I absolutely 100% assure you that whatever was used it would not have been immediately effective. Almost all drugs that aren't administered via IV have an initial onset period of longer than 5 minutes. That might vary between 5-20-60 minutes, but it wouldn't be 5 seconds, or within the duration of this video.

What can be inferred is that when this dude blew this powder into this chick's face that she knew what time it was and IMMEDIATELY became petrified and probably complied in order to avoid any further problems. Scopalamine, like Rohypnol is and can be used in date-rape situations and I'd imagine this woman just wanted this guy to leave her alone. It could also fall into the category of a culture-bound syndrome in which case her mind may have told her that now she needed to do whatever this guy told her to do or she would have X Y Z happen to her. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me that she didn't run into the store immedaitely, as it's clearly open given that one cop leaves and a patron enters as the whole robbery is going down.

All he has to do is not breathe while blowing the dust, something the victim never does and inhales the dust. Apparently, it doesn’t take much to have its effect.

it is an entertainment skit. If there is such a substance, do you not think it would be used in casinos, banks cash offices. Why not throw a handful at an armored car driver and render him unconscious and take bags of money. Pure fiction. I would be more concerned in receiving a voodoo hex from a witch doctor,

There are many other videos of security cameras catching criminals using that dust on their victims.

In this one a doctor goes as far as explaining the effects.

A woman from Azua explaining how she was a victim of robbery using the dust.

A thief arrived at this woman's business, blew the dust on her, then stole much of the merchandise in the store (I bet the alcohol was among the stolen items, just a hunch, lol.)

So on and so forth.

I wonder if a wife here catches her husband being unfaithful if he can just act like a zombie and claim he was "dusted"?

I bet Viagra has led to more people being cleaned out than Burundanga.

Interesting side note: the CIA tried it as a truth serum but found it unsuccessful.

The video seems fake (and kind of funny) but I did see a woman get scopolamined on a bus in Colombia many years ago. It was a long distance bus ride and when we arrived at our destination and everyone was getting off the bus she was essentially semi-conscious which was when everyone noticed what had happened. She'd been robbed. It was scary and in her case anyway she was totally incapacitated.

It is real. Happened to a good friend, Dominicana, in the Colonial Zone many years ago. Wiped out her and her husbands entire savings. A woman with a baby asked her directions in a whisper. My friend moved closer to hear her and that's all she remembered until she was dropped off on Independencia. I have the story on my blog. Her identity is omitted as she was, and still is, very imberased (sp) that it happened. She still does not remember what happened and the police never found the people.

I believe you but your friend should not be embarassed. It could happen to anyone nice enough to want to help out.

There was another story on here of a Person being drugged the same way and they took all of her Furniture , emptied the Entire Apartment .. the neighbors thought it was strange, but she said she was giving the stuff away . but she looked Stoned and out of it .
The Drug makes you extremely compliant to suggestions .. the perp does not have to force you to do anything , they just suggest it and the victim does it without push back at all .. Scary stuff .
If this drug has made it to the the shores of the DR , there is a huge problem, especially if they start systematically targeting TOURISTS with fat pockets .
Think on that .. Anyone at any Hotel can just get the victim to open their Safe and hand it all over . not good .
If these Stories are real , the people in the highest offices need to get involved immediately .
No one wants to travel to a country where you are drugged by someone blowing this Crap in your face and you just hand everything over to them .

lmao, I am sorry. Spreading fairy tales as real-life scenarios is simply not productive to the community. People should take caution when walking alone at night and be aware of their surroundings. Having their money drained by a woman with a baby is simply hilarious. Beig safe and aware at ATM machines is good advice. Having your guard up against fairy and pixie dust is comical.

If find that story a little hard to believe unless they had very little in savings. I think all ATM's have a maximum daily withdrawal limit of 20,000 pesos and no teller in any bank is going to give a woman as obviously drugged in the video all the money in her savings account.

Big, it is not for you to decide whether the post is the truth or not. There are many stories about this happening, whether they are true or not I do not know. But accusing someone of "spreading fairy tales" is not productive.

Don't forget the DR has received thousands of Venezuelans in recent years. With some arrived certain crime tactics that were unknown in the DR.

Heck, there was a time when a group of Venezuelan criminals took a morning flight from Caracas to Santo Domingo, robbed the patrons of a restaurant in the capital, and took an evening flight back to Caracas.

I even suspects the increase of graffiti in SD is probably tied to that migration, since before the en masse arrival of the Venezuelans SD didn't have a serious graffiti problem, unlike some capitals in South America. Now you find graffiti all over the place, even stuff recently inaugurated.

OK, Someone, was just posting what they "heard", I get it. I will follow up with just saying the scenario his highly unusually, and since the thread is about safety, there are countless other things to be more concerned and cautious about then being sprayed with a powder.

Believe as you will. The lady was with a man and they took her to the bank. She went inside the bank and withdrew her and her husbands savings. She said it felt like they were old friends and she was happy being with them. She was gone for about 2 hours. We were looking around for her because it wasnt like her to go for that long without letting us know where she was going. Weeks after she still only remembered a little. It was terrible.

But believe as you wish. I am not a spreader of lies.
