Italian restaurants Sosua

When I go to Italian restaurants here, the menus often reflect what they do "in house." You can buy canned sauce, in all varieties. Four cheese. Meat sauce. Zesty and spicey. Traditional. Etc., etc. etc. If that is what, more or less, their menu describes, then you might as well cook at home, as you can buy the canned sauces in most grocery stores.

I had recommendations to go to Osteria Tocana from 2 different friends. We finally went. Sorry to say, what was served to us was pasta with shrimp and artichoke, swimming in a pool of butter (or perhaps, oil.) We were unable to eat more than a couple of bites.

I would love a good Italian restaurant. Sorrily, I am yet to find one in either Sosua or Cabarete. (I do order delivery from Bologna, which is decent and consistent, yet I don't find it to be Italian fine dining.)

Bliss Restaurant Lounge Bar Pool, Cabarete - Restaurant Reviews, Phone Number & Photos - TripAdvisor

Bliss is the best Italian Restaurant in the area by far. Chef-Owner is from the Piemonte area of Italy, where the best
Italian food in Italy is served.

While I have not tried Bliss and I do understand it is very good, I would imagine his style would be northern Italian based upon where he is from. While it may be "the best Italian food" to another person, it is not what I crave. The kind of Italian food I crave is a good southern Italian red sauce style which is great common people's food not priced like a French restaurant. That is the kind of food I grew up with in NY. People who have been to The North End in Boston would also know what I am talking about.

Bella Italia, aka chain-link Italian, has the best pizza. Osteria Toscana has the best overall food & ambience.

The bigger question is why are there 6 Italian restaurants in a strip one block long in a dusty Dominican whore town?

Bliss is #1
Bologna is good and an added bonus is you get to watch the chicas all dressed up going back and forth in the evening.

Because at one time one of them was doing well. Originality is not a trait here for most.

My favorite is Mama Pasta on Dr Alejo Martinez around Calle finlandia. It's next to Coco Hotel (my fav bar).
So about a minute drive past Infinity Blue towards the casino. Great fresh pasta and a good price!!! I LOVE the lasagna!! I don't really care for any other Italian places in Sosua.
Thanks for the tip. The only one we go to right now is Bologna and it is passable pasta with pretty good pizza. Going to try this place.

You may like Bliss. Do not assume you do not like it before you have tried. I have not been there myself so I have no clue if it is good but many people say it is.

Have you visited Italy often? You sound pretty knowledgeable of italian food.

I trust that you have many good italian restaurants in N.Y by the way

Peace

Going to try this place.

Mama Pasta is nothing to look at. Bologna is a finca in comparison, but at MP the pasta is made fresh and menu changes daily based on the Chef's mood. The drinks are cheap and the lasagna is really good.

I am sure I would like Bliss, but I understand it is a special occasion place. I grew up a a city that was 40 percent Italian (southern Italian) 40 percent Polish and the rest did not matter. So yes there was great Italian food and the best pizza I ever had. When I was in Italy, I got the chance only to be in Northern Italy. The food was indeed excellent, but nothing like the southern Italian cuisine that I really miss.

Headed to Bliss ( once again) tonight for my husband's Easter birthday. I 'll give a restaurant review afterwards with items ordered.

Bliss was excellent, once again. We had a variety of dishes. My husband ordered the wahoo (?) special. I had lamb chops (it was Easter, after all) one member of our party had the rib steak and his wife had shrimp with chinola and mint sauce. We topped it off with the dessert plate sampler, served with a sparkler for the birthday boy.

Okay. We also went through 3 bottles of wine.

The meal totaled $200 USD. My husband made the comment that a dinner like that with 3 bottles of wine in the US would run $500 - 600 USD. He entertains business guests regularly.

Service was personal and excellent. We counted 9 tables full as we were finishing up.

It's not the place you can go once a week for dinner (if you are on my budget), but for a special occasion, it is as good as it gets.

By the way, the menu also has some unique pasta dishes which sounded inviting, but since we were out for a special occasion, we ordered special items.

Sounds great. I have heard good things about Bliss. Wish I could afford a meal like that....but alas....

Taking the thread back to the OP's Sosua restaurant question ,I wondered why no one mentioned Mio at Infinity Blue operated by the original Bologna owners. We enjoy their Italian restaurant & cafe.
