The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has established a definitive timeline for the awarding of the contract to produce the new Dominican Republic national identity card. Hundreds of thousands of people in the Dominican Republic have expired ID cards as the process for renewal has been delayed. The JCE has authorized people to continue to use the expired cards.

In a public announcement on Wednesday, 8 January 2025, the JCE’s Procurement and Contracting Committee revealed that the bid opening for credentials, technical proposals, and samples (Envelope A) and economic proposals (Envelope B) will take place on 25 February 2025. Will the new cédula be able to be printed in NY or a new physical cédula would be sent from Santo Domingo?

For my old cédula they simply entered the info in a computer, JCE in DR got it in a split second, and they printed a new cédula right there (the machine was visible to all as it was next to them.) They even made an error on the first cédula they gave me. Right then I pointed that out and in less than a minutes they fixed it on the computer. Before I could take my fifth breathe, I had the corrected cédula on my hand.

Also, the new cédula appear will be black and white, and there is no space for color. I guess they are doing away with that aspect of identity.

With so many Dominicans in NY, then can probably spring for a card printer there. If they ever get the tender done

They're only just getting around to setting a timeline for awarding the contract? As the article says: "The JCE has not announced when the actual renewal process will begin." Looks like there will not be new cedulas any time soon.

Just imagine the chaos and delays when they finally get around to issuing the new cedulas. There must be millions required.
Every DR citizen 18 and over is required by law to have and carry a cedula at all times, so quite a few million.
