Does anyone here have one?

I just read an article about Stellantis trying to reignite the fire under the brand, and have lowered the price to 40K for a new one.

When they came out new here they were way north of 100K, and Dominicans were grabbing them like no tomorrow.

I just did a search on Supercarros, and there are hundreds of used ones for sale. Maybe folks trying to get out of the monthly payments?

The asking prices are insane - many are in the high 90's.

I wonder how those sellers feel about Jeep dropping those prices.. lol

People with more money than brains buying them. My wife was looking at them and I mentioned it would be a hard pass with beyond insane prices.

New ones at 40K would mean they are only 60 to 65 K in the DR. What a bargain they will be now. ;)

I have been a Mopar Man mostly when back in the USofA . A couple of Dodge B250 vans, a couple of Dodge Caravans (one here now in the DR) over the years.
Got more than 10 years out of each. Used them for carrying my musical or windsurfing gear over the years.

But a new or used Jeep at 100K, That only happens with quite a bit of brain damage,

I wander how many flood damaged cars from South Carolina and Florida ended up here, i saw on youtube a car lot in florida that had 7,000 cars from very high end Ferrari's, Mercede's, and every other car you could think of, the level of water damage was severe to mild. I would bet Dominican car dealers are there buying them up as we speak.

Used, no less. Dreamers. Might as well wear that payment book on a gold chain around their neck as a status symbol, cause' they're not selling.

I remember when i went to look at jeeps.

They had a brand new one. it was 100k. 20% down and the payments were near 2000 a month. I just kept wondering how i see so many of them on the street.

Many of the jeeps here have some severe damage and they put a nice bow on them. They take them up to the mountains then try to sell them. I got a nice wrangler with low miles. Still relatively expensive but my mechanic gave me the green light after visiting four dealerships.

Apparently, no "Flood Damage/Rebuilt" titles are going to be allowed into the DR. This has been the talk amongst the Dealers who import from the USA. I guess as long as the flooded vehicles come with Clean USA titles, you'll see them for sale in the DR, which is a problem. I'd stay away.

Jeep is considered one of the least reliable brands. Better than Maserati but still they carry cache with the famous history of Jeep, but they went downhill like a beginning skier on a black diamond slope once AMC followed by Chrysler, now Stellantis (Chrysler, Fiat & Peugeot) took them over.
I mean look at those 3 auto makers - a threesome of losers.

Gladiator gets a thumbs down from this report. (it's not a 'happy Roman')

I have a 2000 Jeep TJ with 104k miles. Looks new. I could sell it tomorrow for 10k easily. New Jeeps are insanely priced.

They went from being off road utilitarian vehicles to luxury sporty look-like-tough-trucks.
They lost their way. Used to be you could hose them out with a hose and they were simple
Give me an old Power Wagon for serious off-roading. I remember seeing them used by loggers when i was a kid

I bought my 1990 Wrangler new in '90, and sold it for more than I paid for it new around 2005.

I've own three in my life. An 88'YJ, 2003 Rubicon and now the 2000 TJ All have been excellent vehicles with minor problems. Great in snow (when I was living in Canada). I never went mudding with any of them. That's a rich man's sport and great way to destroy the suspension.

Have two friends with new Jeeps. The one with the hybrid plug in had major problems in less than two months. An electrical component failed and he can only recharge it in a 120 volt receptacle. He’s been waiting months for parts. The other friend with the new Gladiator told me it spends more time at the dealership than in his driveway. Most people I’ve talked to will never buy another. The dealership lot near me is filled with used Jeeps with very little miles on them. The Jeep is fast becoming the Edsel of the Chrysler lineup. A Hyundai Santa Cruz is a much more comfortable, reliable, and cheaper alternative to the Gladiator. Given a choice between spending a small fortune on a Jeep hybrid or the new Toyota FJ hybrid, I’d run, not walk, to the nearest Toyota dealership.

It seems the Hyundai Santa Cruz is not sold by Hyundai in the DR. What a pity:

They do have a model called a CANTUS, which is a name as brilliant as the NOVA from Chevrolet.

No Santa Cruz either:

Guess we all have to get Jeeps. It is what it is...
