After my morning read of the local news sites I can't find any good news stories for today or most other days for that matter. It's all greed and avarice for money, at the expense of public health and the environment or the politicians washing their hand of any responsibility for the current state of affairs.

That money always wins? That will always be the case. It is not my "mentality", it is an observation of a truth as
to how the real world works.

As for time of future dirt naps for all of us, only the shadow knows.

I don't know what his philosophy is, but mine is to be grateful for every single thing I have and take nothing for granted.

Close down the small businesses and let the big one's
continue to operate. What a wonderful idea. Who needs
bars, restaurants or sports? Stay home. To hell with the
idea of anyone being able to go out at night and enjoy
themselves ever again.

Doesn't matter to me. As a matter a fact, I actually
think its making all of us safer. I have no financial worries at all.
I am a gringo with a great pension/ retirement plan living
just outside the city with my (much younger) Dominican
wife and her 3 (all born out of wedlock ) children in our big
beautiful over-priced home.

Best of all, I can finally sleep at night without constantly having
to worry about my house being robbed or broken into. Our maid
still comes over 3 times a week. She has to take 2 different
public/ conchos each day to and from my cylinder block castle
while putting her safety at risk for a mere 7,000 pesos a month.
Of course she could easily be exposed to the flu but hey....
at least I have clean towels and fresh sheets on my bed each day.

Why on earth are so many of you complaining about this country
being under curfew? This is Paradise!

Sad and true. No leadership for the days of crisis, no party planning the way for the next 20 or 40 years.
But the ruling oligarchars are doing fine. Thy system works fine for them.

Yes new airport that is not needed instead of announcing a plan for improving health care in the short and long term. That will be Danilos legacy. Right in the middle of a pandemic.

Did people not investigate the health care systems here within RD before they decided to relocate within?
While blame should and must be place on the RD government and medical system overseers, what is to be said of those expatriates who either did not investigate/prepare carefully, or simply looked the other way?

I admit I didn’t and even got residency and still didn’t research much the health care system. I was in Cuba before here and was in Cuba and came to DR in my start thirties. I had an international insurance for some years that I never used and then had no insurance for a number of years but then started having lifestyle based issues. I have had insurance now about 5-6 years now with Humano. Important is being in a system and that a clinic has a file on you. I was lucky to not have a very serious situation but I easily could have had. I think one can have an ok coverage here with the right insurance and picking the right specialists. You have to make an effort yourself to know where to go. But overall the DR does not have a good system and especially Dominicans deserve better.

Beautiful attitude you have there. Would it hurt you so much to pay her a decent wage? She has to shop in the same shops as you do, you know the prices, seriously do the right thing....

I did, but I was 48 when I retired here. I looked at the insurance plans and where I could use them.

The government takes the blame for the state of the public hospitals. The government is not responsible for the state of the private clinics.

There was a guy years ago he was documenting his day to day with his Dominican wife and their life in Villa Mella. It was some of the best material ever. Maybe an old timer can point us to it? I don't mean years old btw, meaning some around who can link it to us. Great stuff now that they canceled our OT entertainment
