After over 100 days of a nearly total shutdown of the nation’s tourism industry, just 23 of the more than 100 of the largest hotel installations have reopened for business.
Flights into the Punta Cana Airport, the nation’s busiest, were renewed last Wednesday with celebrations that included a shower from water cannons for the first flight to arrive.
The Punta Cana/Bavaro area is the area with the most openings, with 27 units opening this month and another 9 in August.
In the slow moving re-opening of the major hotels in the East, it is expected that 50 hotels will open in November , and the hotels in Samaná are scheduled to open then. Many rental properties have been open for some time now, and small hotels are reopening.
On the North Coast, the hotels in the area of Puerto Plata are scheduled to roll open slowly, with an opened scheduled by November...
