If you are heading from Sosua then this is my easiest way. Just drive as if you are heading to Tropical, this is by going straight through the round-about, past the court house, keep going past the police station, and right after the station this is where you need to divert to the left. NOW, when you are a block away from the left turn to Tropical, where there is a small park, you turn right onto the street just at the beginning of the park, one block down and a left turn you are at the back entrance to La Sirena. You will easily see it at this point.

Hope these directions make sense, they should if you've ever driven this way to Tropical. Sorry, I never remember street names.

Can someone tell me how to get to La Sirena? The entrance is not on the Malecon so where exactly is it?

I do not know my way around the Malecon area very well but there is a ramp up to the parking lot from the Malecon and you walk into the building directly from the parking lot. It is easiest if you are travelling East on the Malecon and the building is located at the Easterly end of it. Be careful of the ramp, there are a lot more people using it than cars.

I was there yesterday about 2:30 and the place was packed. I spent most of my time outside the entrance door "people watching" (some fascinating sights), while my wife shopped.

That's correct. Just because you are married does not mean you can't look, right?;)

I am assuming at some point they will allow people in from the main entrance on the Malecon too, regularly, once things quiet down to regular business. But the above directions make an easy drive and entry. I also found that just parking on the Malecon and walking up the large staircase to the front doors is as easy as parking in their lot. But if you are purchasing much, you would want to be able to use a cart in their parking lot.

Thanks for the telephone number!

However, I found out that they do not give any prices over the phone!
I was attempting to find out flat screen TV prices and they aren't talking.

40" around 65,000.00 Toshiba. Panasonic - just to look at, no prices

Great Store

All of you in POP will enjoy La Sirena - I've shopped for years in the one in San Cristobal to load up on staples when we go out to Najayo Beach for a few days. Decent prices, great selection, I feel 'at home' there. Reminds me of Walmart in the US. Last visit we bought new cushions that they had on sale for our porch chairs - very nice ones thick cushy ones - for about $5 each if I remember correctly. One of the managers even came over to me to tell me to be very careful of leaving my purse in the cart's child seat - he didn't see that I had it locked into the little seat belt :squareeye In SD we shop at Nacional because my inlaws live just off Jimenez Moya/Churchill, but our cousins in Las Minas love their Sirena.

I'm glad they are here and hope they work the kinks out. Great place to pick up sale items just know you won't always get the sale prices. A few other things the produce has to be weighed in the produce dept. Learned that at the register when I sadly had to give up my apples and banannas. The produce may be 1/2 price but their regular prices are twice what I pay at Playero so really regular price. The registers also aren't set up with the sale prices. Tried to get sale sodas displayed on an endcap with a huge sale price sign and item wouldn't scan. Got a few other bottles and wouldn't read them either. Even after the cashier scanned in the UPC number. Cashier called over a supervisor couldn't get it to work either. Showed her the sign and that item was in circular but still couldn't ring it up. Also be careful items on the shelves don't correspond to the prices below them. Found that out on cheese items. Also the Gouda on sale in Deli with a large sign on sale for 1.99/lb rang up at 2.99/lb. Cheaper than at Playero but not the sale price. They also have Bubba Burgers and Dannon Activa. 99 peso wine is not bad either. The cards are good for points not a discount. Not sure what you do with the points.

The points are: 1 point = 1 peso. you get 1 point for every 100 pesos you spend. You can only use the points after you have 100 of them, which means you have to spend 10,000 pesos to get 100 pesos credit. Your total points show up on your receipt (unlike Playero where you have to know where to look on their monitor to find your bonus)

After all the grand opening bargains, there will be certain items that will be deep discounted and you will only get that discount if you have the SirenaMas card.

The point system at La Sirena was already answered in this thread

Anng3 and I asked you about The Playero point system, if it is too much to answer me without sarcasm, I will start a new thread, it's really not that important to me.

At Playero, you go to the office window and tell them you want to sign up for a Playero card. You need your cedula or a copy of your passport. It takes them a couple of weeks to make it for you. Then, each purchase you make, they scan the card for you. Like La Sirena, you accrue points for your purchases. I have no idea what the calculation is, but the points can then be used for purchasing groceries from them. I have had my card not quite two years now, and I have close to $200 credit accumulated which I could use, at some point, instead of paying for my groceries.

Their computer/cash register keeps track of it for you, so at any time you can ask the cashier how much credit you have on your card.

Get one!

With La Sirena now open I won't be shopping enough at Playero to accumulate many points. Actually liked the comment that every time you shop there they take a point away. Went there today and it was empty (Playero that is). Still they tried to get me for a peso in change. Some things never change. Tomorrow La Sirena for green day (huge discounts on fresh veggies). And guess what, you can pick most of them your self so no more one bad one with every two good tomatos etc you buy.
