El Caribe newspaper looks into several of the would-be obstacles to the increase in bus service in Greater Santo Domingo. The Abinader administration has announced public-private alliances with notable bus syndicates for these to set up bus companies in alliance with the government. The bus syndicates are known to impose their “right” to city routes using vandalism.

So far Mochotran (Av. Winston Churchill and Av. Charles de Gaule) and Conatra (Av. Núñez de Cáceres) have signed on for routes. But Juan Hubieres of Fenatrano opposes Mochotran (Alfredo Pulinario – Cambita) getting the Charles de Gaulle route. Vandalism has again returned to that route. Senator Antonio Marte’s Conatra got the first Av. Núñez de Cáceres route.

Hugo Beras, head of the Transport Cabinet, had announced that Hubieres was assigned the 27 de Febrero route. But Hubieres has been accusing the...

Even if so that does not make them right or beneficial.
Been this way since I can remember.
They aren't called "the country's owners" for nothing. Short of throwing several hundred of them in jail for an extended period of time or shooting them dead (they are the strongest of the old guard) nothing will change.

Yet many things, hard things, are changing. This is the most forward-thinking leader and Gov't the DR has seen in ages, generations, perhaps ever. It's not perfect but it's so much better than in the past. The future is looking better and brighter every week.

What unions do you belong to. Threat of violence is why everything was closed not in solidarity.

I am a Member in Good Standing of the Eco-Feminist Teamsters Union

I DO NOT THINK THAT YOU ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED

There is NO power of the Government to CLOSE THE COLMADOS ..., etc

It was INDEED Solidarity

(We picked up two stranded travelers at a bus stop... had a 4 hour discussion in Spanish)

We also don't have this problem in Europe... But, you cannot really compare the DR with 1st world countries, can you? Competition would be the right and healthy option, but here they just don't mostly have brains for that... Violence and sabotage, corruption and other desperate acts work much better and are safer to utilize...
