El Caribe newspaper looks into several of the would-be obstacles to the increase in bus service in Greater Santo Domingo. The Abinader administration has announced public-private alliances with notable bus syndicates for these to set up bus companies in alliance with the government. The bus syndicates are known to impose their “right” to city routes using vandalism.
So far Mochotran (Av. Winston Churchill and Av. Charles de Gaule) and Conatra (Av. Núñez de Cáceres) have signed on for routes. But Juan Hubieres of Fenatrano opposes Mochotran (Alfredo Pulinario – Cambita) getting the Charles de Gaulle route. Vandalism has again returned to that route. Senator Antonio Marte’s Conatra got the first Av. Núñez de Cáceres route.
