In a year in which the authorities from the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), the Dominican Customs Agency (DGA), intelligence units of the Armed Forces, and special prosecutors from the Justice Department have come together to garner over 65,000 kilograms of illegal drugs, late last week there was a blockbuster hit on drug trafficking. The drug bust was so big it made headlines around the world.

A container that had arrived to Caucedo Port from Guatemala and was heading to Belgium on Thursday, 5 December 2024 was found to contain the staggering amount of ten tons of cocaine concealed in a banana shipment. The DNCD confirmed the attempted shipment of 9,588 kilograms (21,093.6 lbs = 10.5468 tons) of the illegal substance. The value of the haul is estimated to have a street value of US$250 million, making it, by far, the biggest seizure ever made in the Dominican...

There must be a distribution warehouse in the DR where smaller loads come in and larger loads are send out..

The DR has been a drug distrubution hub for many years. Just google it.

They catch some from time to time to make it look good. There is no shortage of product for customers in the EU and North America.
There is no way they can stop it.

Locally, in Jamao there is a struggle going on between the police and our Alcalde. There was an event planned by the Ayuntamiento for New Years Eve with music in the park. Everyone arrived, the women dressed to kill, so to speak. Five minutes after the music started the police came and confiscated the speakers. The crowd and our mayor went ballistic!

I saw videos of the argument our alcalde had on the phone with police authorities higher up. Meanwhile the crowd was yelling, “ we have so many points of sale for drugs in Jamao. Why are the police punishing the law abiding people who just was to celebrate New Years Eve?”

I am not aware where the points of sale for drugs actually are. But I guess for the locals these places are many and are no secret.

I realize this information above is about international drug distribution,
But if in a small Pueblo drug sales are
Rampant, I can just imagine the rest of the country.

The one saving grace for the Dominican Republic is that OxyContin and other pain killer substitutes that are narcotics cannot be bought in the pharmacies, so chances of addiction to these substances is almost unheard of…….I think.

The dealers thankfully moved their distribution/sale point from beside our house. Too much traffic and perhaps complaints. Drugs are everywhere here. I often smell pot, and they sell pills of different kinds, as well as crack.

I am guessing that oxy was never available here, thank heavens for that.

I think it’s connected. As an international distribution point part gets ‘lost’ or skimmed, likely even at busts. The easiest way is to sell that locally. I guess there’s more on the streets than a decade ago.
