Thinking of going on vacation down here. Just wondering what is around these cities. As far as tours, entertainment, nightlife, shopping, etc.. Looking at staying at the Coral Canoa Beach Resort. Any comments???

Thank you all for your response.

Well i myself have not actually visited that hotel which you mentioned, but in general i can tell you that you picked a great place to vacation in. Dominican Republic is a beautiful place, a lot of sightseeing, great in entertainment and nightlife. And La Romana is a beautiful and very historic place so it will be great for tours! I'm sure you'll have an excellent time and i can almost guarantee you that you will want to visit it again. I myself am also going down there for vacation at the end of this month to spend New Years over there.
Hope you enjoy your stay!

Coral Canoa is in an somewhat isolated area. You will need to taxi to Bayahibe (maybe 5 or 10 minutes). Bayahibe has a couple good restaurants especially for seafood (La Punta & La Bahia) and some small shops. It is a very small fishing village. If you walk down the beach to the Viva resorts (just past the Gran Dominicus- the resort next to yours) and pass though the resort there is a neat development with stores and restaurants and a disco just outside the gates. You can also get there by the road at the front of your hotel but its longer that way. Saona Island is a popular excursion that your resort will offer. Crazy Wheels (a 4 wheeler excursion) is fun if you don't mind rougher terrain and getting dirty. We stayed at the resort next to Coral Canoa last year. The beach is great there! Have fun.

This will be my first time as well. I booked at Coral Canoa, and will be there in January. All the research I've done tells me it's a beautiful spot, friendly staff, but limited English spoken at the resort. That's ok, a new challenge! I bought a spanish-english dictionary, and will keep it handy (should be interesting).
