Yeah Man !!! Exactly !!! Danilo is the most capable guy around, regardless of his charisma...

and create a capable and powerful inner-party rival? madness. there is a reason why leonel didn't fully support danilo back in 2000.

Against a Margarita/Leonel ticket, we might enjoy a Hippolito/Danilo ticket (!!!)
Danilo might just do what most Dominican politicians do when they understand they are going nowhere in their own party: switch to the other one !
Hippolito/Danilo would be a strong contender for Mr. & Mrs.Fernandez, no ?

But would Danilo want to be second fiddle to Hipo?

And this is the man to represent the PRD in 2012?!?!?!

Santo Domingo.- The weeks long crisis in Dominican Republic’s major opposition party (PRD) went from mere scuffles to lockdown Wednesday morning, when security guards of its president Miguel Vargas told reporters and employees of the PRD’s Organizing Convention Commission to leave the building.

Upon their arrival Vargas’ security guards shouted insults against Commission president Enmanuel Esquea and then chained the doors of the building, located on the busy Winston Churchill Av.

A man identified by news source elcaribe.com.do only as Vargas Pimentel asked the journalists to leave the premises, alleging security reasons and that he was carrying out orders.

Security in and outside the building is expected to turn tense, as the Commission which Esquea presides could be halted from entering the offices in the next few hours for a meeting announced for 4 p.m.

A source quoted by media outlet elnuevodiario.com.do said in addition to Esquea, Milagros Ortiz Bosch, Te?filo - Quico- Tabar, Hugo Tolentino Dipp and the other PRD convention Commissioners would also be expelled.

The source added that senior leaders plan to proclaim current PRD president Miguel Vargas as the party’s presidential candidate on April 30, according what they agreed in a meeting.

MVM is a man that's willing to do anything for power, even to challenge the party itself when he lost by a landslide to Hippo...

The PRD for 2012 is stillborn, the PLD is now 100% able to hold it no matter who runs for the presidential post!

The PRD is ridiculous! MVM and his followers are digging their party a nice, deep grave.

With Leonel having the support of the majority in his party, and control of the country's coffers to spend at will on campaigning, he will handpick the PLD's candidate, which I believe will not be himself. The only person in the PLD that I would be happy with, is Francisco Dominguez Brito, but he's probably the last person that LF would support, because he appears to be the less crooked of the declared candidates.

To my dismay, I think that the PLD will win the 2012 presidential election in a cakewalk, with LF's handpicked candidate. Btw, not that the PRD winning, with either Hipo or MVM would be any better!

It will never happen because Danilo won't accept (ever) but that ticket would blow Leonel out of the water...

They say the president will decide this week what it takes to achieve that purpose

Written by: Alberto Caminero ( a.caminero @ elnacional.com.do )

First lady Margarita Cedeno de Fernandez, will be presented on Sunday as presidential candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), with the backing of more than 200 members of the body, it was learned in authoritative sources.

The support base of the wife of President Leonel Fernandez are the main promoters of the re-election to the president's signal that he would not seek a new term, including Senator Felix Bautista.

It was learned that Fernandez will make an address to the nation by Saturday, declining re-election despite the support of over two million signatures for repostulaci?n, a decision the president made available to the party.

It also seeks a meeting of the Political Committee of the PLD for Saturday, at the request of Franklin Almeyda Rancier, so that the body knows Fernandez's declined re-election.

Around the reelection of the President, for a year there is a controversy over whether or not he would run again.

In addition to Senator Bautista are among the promoters of the first lady's consul in Miami, Manuel Almanzar, David Perez Taveras, director of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications, Domingo Tavarez, of the Presidential Office for Technology (OPTI), and close associates the presidential family.

It was reported that Rosa Castro, assistant to Senator de San Juan de la Maguana and secretary of the PLD holds membership of the Central Committee on Sunday, with specific instructions to introduce the first lady as a candidate.

So far the candidates are known in the PLD Danilo Medina, Almeyda, Rafael Alburquerque, Jos? Tom?s Pd?rz, Francisco Dominguez Brito, Radhames Segura and Cede?o de Fern?ndez.

It is unknown whether Fernandez is to give the guarantee that as her partner will not participate at the convention, because he would be questioning the role of arbiter in the internal process.

However, others interpret the fact that the head of state to take her on Sunday March 27 the act of delivering the signatures to the re-election, is a sign behind her candidacy.

The first lady being well positioned to be a leader in the polls, apparently is the candidate who will face any internal candidate like Danilo Medina, who warned this week that the PLD has to look in the mirror of the Dominican Revolutionary Party.

For months, the first lady is seen as the PLD candidate or vice presidential candidate of Medina, if she can not win the internal domination process.

"We will support the candidacy of Cede?o Sunday in the Central Committee meeting, because we want it to be the PLD that weighs and decide whether her charisma and popularity can be put at the top of the ballot and thus maintain power , to a possible failure of the presidential repostulaci?n, "said a close aide of the president's family, gathered last night with a group of reporters.

It was explained that the head of state does not discredit the first lady promoting, of which there are billboards, newspaper advertisements and commercials prepared for internal campaign.

For those that doubted this campaign from the go...

The question of Gold is if Medina will accept the vice position or not. In which case there's some crazy (because if true would be a sure winner) talk that a group of high ranking PLD members, are leaning towards inviting Wilton Guerrero to pair up as vice with the first lady...

Interesting developments in the PLD and quite "earthquake" shattering for the PRD leaders and their base.

Not going to happen. At least from what the people say.

People say a lot of things, until the moment of truth!

This government is in people's pockets via jobs, solidarity cards, gas cards, etc. To top it off, they have proved that they will borrow and use the country's money to campaign and make sure that they remain in power. On election day, they will have more money than any other party to buy cedulas and hand out food baskets, mosquito nets, bottles of rum, etc. Who do you think that all those people will vote for? :ermm:

Sadly, get ready for 4 more years of the same bunch of crooks! :(

JJ, those times are long gone! The majority of Dominicans would vote for the devil himself, if he was the highest bidder for their cedulas.

Aww, that's so sad, I was really looking forwards to 8 years under the great economic leaders of the PRD, you know! The ones that sooooooooo smartly handled the DR's economy in a way that the Peso gained 3 times the value over the US Dollar, the banks were stuffed with money to lend to the poor, education received more than three times it does now under the PLD and the electricity never went off the grid! Uh!?!? Waaaaaaait... Or was it the other way around?!?!? Now I'm confused! Geez!

That's sadder still... the fact that what most people consider the only other viable option (PRD) are just as bad as the current bunch.

I am on record here as saying that my first option for the next president of DR is Guillermo Moreno, with Francisco Dominguez Brito (PLD) being the second choice.

In reality, all I wish for, is someone with some level of honesty and integrity, and I sure as hell don't trust anyone closely associated with Leonel Fernandez or the entire PRD to have an ounce of either!
