You want to call Republica Dominicana Santo Domingo. This is like the Dominicans call USA Nueva York. Igual.

Why not just leave well enough alone. Just think of all the money it would cost to change the name. All the new maps that would need to be printed. All the computer time to change all those little web sites.

I like Republica Dominicana. Its not that long when you consider that USA is really The United States of America. How long is that when you have to write it out?

Someone from USA is an American...someone from here is a Dominican. That is 1 more letter..8 letters as opposed to 9. This doesn't seem to long to me.

I say..If it works why change it?

.....something other than Republica Dominicana. It's not short, sweet and nifty enough like others' such as Cuba,Haiti.Peru,etc. Plus it will distinguish us from, as Brownskin noted: "those other negroes from Dominica". If the former Upper Volta, Ceylon and Zaire had the resolve to do it, so can we. I vote for "Hispaniola" or "Hispana". Whatd'ya say?

How about making it a ESTADO LIBRE ASOCIADO de Estados Unidos and that way we could change the name, the economy and the whole country so there`s no more kids not going to school and wondering out in the streets. That`s the change you should be asking for!!
