Actually within the next couple of months I am going to take a minimum salary. (I currently am a full time volunteer as Director of my little colegio and a non profit. Since I am 70 and not sure how much longer my health will hold out, I am going to start taking a salary and putting it aside in a separate bank account. When I no longer can run the show here I will donate the funds I took as salary and hire someone to do the job.

Thus I could have the government health insurance.

Yes the basic one I kept is also Humano. I am still wondering why my Dominican Dr said to have two.

That sounds a little odd to me because I have tried in the past and been told it can't be done. I'm anxious to see or hear if someone has done it.
As an example, how would claims be handled? Medical studies? Procedures?

You do not have to have employment with SENASA, only the ability to pay.

Healthcare is buisness, so all Insurance companies want to make money. For visiting a doctor, lab test and other studys the insurance here are ok. They work allso for hospital stays. What's a mess when you got a catastrophic illness like cancer, than the insurance cover only up to a fixed amount, and that's not enough to cover all costs who comes with those kinds of illness. We have for this szenario a special found so we can use it in such circumstances.

I had Humano, a group plan, about 10 years ago and they canceled my insurance when I got sick, even though I always paid on time.

I keep thinking about the Senesa route but just been lazy.

Insurance is so confusing. When I make a very small income from social security it's not easy to pay us$100 a month.

Also, I am getting emails about the old people insurance from USA. I'm 64. It says if I don't sign up I'll have to pay penalties. I'm not returning to USA ( I have no place to return to) so why would I need that?

The more I read the more confused I get.

You can get and keep humano before 65 years old.

Humano is very good and our interactions with them as an agent have always been very good. It is very important for people to get a good plan, unless you have a fat bank account and easy access to it , and it doesn't matter if you pay with that.

Like all health insurance it doesn't cover pre existing conditions. If you have alot of claims the
premiums can increase, although we don't see that much.

I have had humano for over 5 years with a great agent. Cost has gone up over the years but not bad, they can be slow to approve - which is why the agent makes a huge difference !!! I just turned 70 and there was a big jump in cost but still cheaper than US.

Even if they canceled my insurance because of my chronic sickness? I can still get it? What is considered to be pre-existing? I have had back issues all my life, 2 surgeries. No idea what else as I have not had a check up since Humano canceled me over 10 years ago. I have a very small income, sort of poor.

So what do you pay? I just don't want to even consider getting it if I won't be able to afford it in 5 years.

Are you sure about Cedimat ? From what I understand Cedimat takes Senasa plan Larimar or another plan (contribuable Spelling ?) but not the free plan. I maybe wrong and would like to know if anyone has past experience.

Consult their website for an up to date list of everywhere it's accepted.

Jan, honestly, I'm surprised you haven't contacted SENASA yet.

Is Senasa available for someone married to a Dominican but with an expired residency and cedula?
