Lifestyle is the operator of this property.... They basically rent it from a DOMINICAN group of investors which seem well connected... Local government has no real say in this...

Everything indicates that Lifestyle is closing the old road that serves as access to the beach in Cabarete

Although the municipal authorities deny that they are going to close the old road that serves as access to the beach in Cabarete and that the environmental license indicates that they have to leave the public access, everything indicates that the company Lifestyle that is building to the same shore The road will close. That access is almost the only one in Cabarete that allows an ambulance or emergency vehicles to reach the beach. For the authorities, it does not matter that these roads are public domain, in the name of Cabarete development, it gives away what belongs to the community and sure that there are benefits but not for the community.

No one can believe in the municipal authorities of Sosua and Cabarete, because it has always been so in Cabarete that when a private wants to close an access, they close after negotiations under the table. In February this year, rumors are that several authorities from Cabarete and Sosua met to negotiate the closing of the road. Also, it has been heard that there were meetings for the closing of the Boca de Yasica road in favor of the promoters. The old road has already been closed at various points such as Encuentro, Perla Marina and the sea horse ranch. In Punta Goleta, the owners of Seawind have also closed access with the support of the directors of the district council of Cabarete.

Although they do not have the letter of no objection from the tourism ministry, the chapter halls of Sosua and Cabarete, they continue to build without any problem with the complete silence of those same authorities. The country of wonder for the corrupt.

Lords of Lifestyle, municipal authorities of Sosua and Cabarete, the community of Cabarete is full of this corruption.

I believe I read that the President of the DR, Danilo, signed a decree signing off on the development. Not sure about the legal strength of a decree, but I think this project was endorsed by the very top.

Living in a tourist town, there will likely be further development over time. Perhaps the natural trend of development will push toward greater densities and height. The character of the town will change and the crowd of people who have been here for a long time will have to get used to these changes. One can see with with Seawinds, the building east of Ocean Dream and now Lifestyle that the building heights allowed may increase. Perhaps the ole surfer dudes will be replaced by middle income folks retiring or looking for a vacation. Authorities may even allow motorized water sports in some areas. I don't know what changes will take place, but the town is growing and with it maybe changes and disruption to the old ways...

More than likely, the Danilo sign-off was for the 60M rule.

That needs the Presidential kiss to seal the deal.... from what I know

The principal owner of the property is the Wynn Group from Toronto that acquired the property several years ago when the previous developer became insolvent. It was all over the press when the Wynn group more recently signed the deal with Lifestyles to manage the property. Then construction started. That Lifestyles has ties to influential Dominicans is certainly true.
Yours is fake news Fredo.

Not sure if it is feasible or if it would last, but they really need to do a beach replentishment in front of the resort. With the almost zero beach that they have now, they're going to have problems making it a really successful project.

The whole beach in Caberete could do with beach replentishment. They keep pushing sand in front o Ocean Dream and 2-3 weeks later it's gone. The sand comes with the tides and goes with the storms.

Oriole, you've got that backwards.   The machines push the sand away from the wall at Ocean Dream and over the course of a few months it comes back up to the height of the wall.   The problem in that area is too much sand accumulating over time due to the wind.

Cabarete
The lobby and the bar is open during the day. They are giving "tours" and presentations. The rooms look fantastic. Open for occupancy is planned for March. There will be a total of 400 rooms when complete.

Stayed at Presidential Suites a few years ago and sat through the spiel on membership. Then the AI was optional and not that expensive. I hear it's hellishly expensive now. They had one area in Cofresi equipped with kitchenettes for snow birds and a area close by for their long term vehicle parking. I don't know if any of this still exists because they have restructured everything and a separate company flogs the memberships now. I was surprised to see Lifestyle reps sitting in the lobby of my resort trying to get clients interested in memberships. They told me about the new membership system. If they keep adding new places like Cabarete they might sell more memberships. Marco knows how to grease the wheels to get things done. The legend of Marco starts with his buying the old Cofresi complex from a guy who borrowed money from the Russians, and had to get out of town quickly to avoid lead poisoning because he could not pay the money back. Marco pumped a fortune in Lifestyles and, despite a few ups and downs, seems to be doing well financially and has good connections to the current government. He doesnt pay resort staff well, and a lot of staff in the membership section work on commission. Lifestyles is a registered offshore corporation and that's where his revenue goes. How much gets pumped back into the DR economy is anybody's guess.

I understand, but Lifestyles claims they do not sell memberships in RD!
When I visited Oceanworld a Lifestyles Sales guy was actually obnoxious and persistent about me visiting the Lifestyles resort.
Even when I told them I lived in Luperon he continued persistence. Spoiled my day!! I guess I expect too much for $100.00
I went to lifestyles with Ecoman1949 and was quite impressed with the apparent professionalism and cleanliness of the place.

H’mmmm? Just the other evening we went to the Cinema in Playa Dorado. Lifestyles had a booth set up there. As we walked past, one of the reps came out after us with that “friendly sales pitch”. He stopped as soon as I told him I’ve already been here for ten years with me own place and wasn’t interested.

Well someone is offering the Presidential Suite at $175 a night (for up to 6 people) on Airbnb.com saying claiming it'll be open on March 1 !! $85 mandatory AI fee per person https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/22599204?https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/22599204

If your not a Lifestyles VIP member and staying at their Cabarete complex, your going to be low in the pecking order for services, access to the ala carte restaurants, access to the limo, etc. Your going to be constantly bombarded with staff trying to get you to attend a membership spiel. Wait till the novelty of the resort wears off, go to discount vacation sites like Selloff Vacations.com, and you will get a better rate plus for a few dollars more you can tack on the VIP package. I’ve stayed in the Presidential suite in Cofresi. It’s comfortable for two couples who have their own rooms. The third couple would have to sleep on a Murphy bed which isn’t comfortable. Buyer beware!
