My gardener bought something there this morning, so I think you may be mistaken. They are doing something to the front of the building, but I think it;s still open.

I was also there yesterday. It is open. I wished we had another better hardware store on the NC though...

Ferreteria Bellon in Santiago is a carbon copy of the Home Depots in the States.

That sounds like a marketing slogan for Bellon... I go to Bellon and Ochoa and 90% of the time I end up with Ochoa.

I was surprised but I found couple items in Ochoa Santiago at lower price than any retailers in the US.
The 12" concrete Bosh drill bit. US $8. Check eBay / Amazon and Home Depot... Over $12. Dollars.

I don't want to see a lot of Americanization here, but a Home Depot, a Walmart or Lowes, an Autozone, and a Taco bell or Subway would be great.

Well, there's a contradiction!
I'm not sure what people have against those stores(?). Ochoa and La Sirena /Jumbo are really just second-rate, limited selection versions of Home Depot/Lowes, and Walmart. I can't think of any place here that remotely resembles Autozone(?). I just ended up going on a scavenger hunt to four different repuestos before I finally found a windshield washer pump for my Toyota Camry. Think of how much time and money in gas and shipping fees you'd save if those places were here.

People criticize Walmart for its cheap Chinese products. Well, La Sirena takes cheap, Chinese crap to a whole new level. I've never seen such junk in my life.

I am sorry for my fellows Dominicans who makes a living using tools, they are so expensive in DR.
I found a store in Santiago similar to Harbor freight.

Seems like neither the store, nor the name brand really matters. I bought a Hyundai grass trimmer for a lot of money and the engine flew apart in just one year. I researched the brand and model number to see if I could but a new engine, but apparently that model number does not exist, anywhere. They must be fake bootlegs coming in from China.
