Insight Crime reports that the record-breaking cocaine seizures in the Dominican Republic highlight the resurgence of the Caribbean as a major trafficking route to Europe amid unprecedented cocaine production in Colombia. The geographic location of the country, and its many sea and air ports and shipping and air connections, make it an advantage point for trafficking.

Insight Crime reports on the successes of the National Drug Control Agency during the Abinader administration compared to past governments in cracking down on drug trafficking.

Over 30 tons of cocaine have been seized in the Dominican Republic in 2024, surpassing the 18 tons confiscated in 2023 and the previous record of 27.7 tons set in 2022. This represents a dramatic increase in drug interdictions, with cocaine seizures rising fivefold between 2019 and 2024.

Lets see how long it takes to break the new record.

Is there any shortage of cocaine on the streets in the EU and USA?

" We would like to congratulate drugs for winning the war on drugs "
It was a war that could never be won. But some people are making amazing money because of it.
Many people are convinced continuing the failed war is a good idea. It is not.

It’s political perception Windy. Something has to to be seen to be done about illegal drugs despite the high cost and large amount of police resources governments continue to pump into it. Doesn’t matter if the success rates are low. The media would have a field day if nothing was done and governments would fall.

The war on drugs and border security are linked and are political footballs that get kicked around during elections by all parties. Many countries including mine have tried to come to terms with illegal drugs by legalizing certain drugs and approving legal injection sites. Still doesn’t eliminate the drug problem. In some areas, it made it worse. The cartels are much more adept at ensuring their survival than governments are at trying to destroy it.

Nothing will ever eliminate the drug problem. Fighting it as a war since Nixon was POTUS has amply demonstrated what a dismal failure that is.
The point is that people that want to do them should not be considered criminals unless and until they endanger others, just like
how society treats alcohol. There is no solution that gets rid of all the problems, that is impossible.

The war on drugs creates unnecessary collateral damage. Of course it is political and it is about the money as well.
Many people make great amounts money because of the war on drugs.
