You "CAN" buy "Happiness" in the DR!

I'll be moving in w/3 philosophies you may find interesting.
1. El que tiene negocio lo atiende, si no lo vende (he who has a business, or in my case 85 acres and large construction, tends it or sells it. This was one of my dad's favorite refranes (sayings). When he died he added "no lo dejen perder" (do not let lose it). I'm moving in to oversee deslinde (which could take a while) and then plan to sell while in the process doing what I can to restore/repair and generate income from it if possible.
2. Although a necessity, money doesn't buy happiness. I will have enough to rent and to pay for cost-of-living with a small amount for the essentials.
3. And finally, and what you'll find most interesting, is the antithesis to your own "How do you make $1,000,000 in the DR?, bring $2,000,000." My own is, "How do you keep from losing $1,000,000 in the DR?, bring and invest as little as possible (only what is essential)."
I have less quantifiable assets Criss. I know and love "El Caribe" (dr1 has added much of what I didn't know, thank you). As you might have determined, I am a fluent bilingual. I have a Dominican born wife (she's more apprehensive of the move than me, but a definite positive). I am pragmatic and creative (reasonable expectations, all be them with greater hopes). I have a confidence in the DR that is missing in many. I'm born and and raised in the barrios of NYC so will not be surprised by DR crime and its creative manifestations. Further, I have tracked DR's evolution, or devolution for whomever wants to view it in that context, for 3 decades. It's judicial system has, without a doubt, stabilized to the point that I can trust it. Of course, one has to be there and on top to best leverage it. Finally, my greatest asset is motivation. Los bienes reales e inmuebles (land and building/constructions) have, in their current condition, a value of a half a million US$ at the low end. Fully restored they would have a value of 1 million plus US$ on the low end. "No lo voy a dejar perder." Wish us luck.
Hope I'm not hijacking.
