I have been dumb, I know.
I let my business contact (6 years doing business together) in Arizona take care of quite some money while things were uncertain during the Hippo days.
I sent checks with her name, which she supposedly put to her account in the Bank of America.
I have received back some of that money over the last six months but now there?s still US$38000 over ther in AZ but since some weeks my mails aren?t answered and since today the company phones there are disconnected.
I?m thinking about going to Arizona by the end of July and try to recover sth if possible, but since I have never been there I?m not sure how to start.
I?d like to be a little prepared when I get there.
Any advice of how I could get hold of the person (can I post details here?) or how I should proceed are very welcome.
Is there a better forum to place this post?
Would you recommend people research on the net?
Should I look for a private investigator?

Please keep comments like ?how could you do this? etc away from me. The mistake has been made and cannot be reversed.
As I already realized: I have been dumb, I know.

It's hard to give you an answer without knowing all the facts. The bottom line is that if your partner has absconded with your funds, and you do not have anything in writing as to why you sent her the checks, it will be difficult to recover your money.

First of all, hire a skip tracer. Second, take legal advice from an attorney. If I can be of any assistance, PM me. I do the second thing for a living.

If you just want to locate this person, and if he lives in Maricopa County (and he probably does -- half the state lives in Maricopa County), I would suggest you start with public records. You can search the Assessor's and Recorder's office records at www.maricopa.gov. If the person owns property in the county, their contact info will be there on the property tax records, which is public information. If you need help searching, send me a PM with the name(s).
