Artificial Bridge

There is a nice new bridge over the river / stream. That's a nice new change.

Indeed.
And it's even free to walk on it. :bunny:

BTW, I realized that they used artificial timber planks (composite decking ?) for the walkway.
Clever choice.

It seems that is new to RD . the composite wood but works very well.
I have seen it used for sliding gates and pool pump houses... no deterioration and no maintenance req'd

I had a pm from a gentleman who was vacationing in LT looking for the best steak in town. My choice is Chez Sandro. Great Filet Mignon and NY Strip. Wonderful sauce and sides and great atmosphere. Prices vary but from soup to nuts with tip you can get a fantastic meal from about $35usd per person. Also for great Italian check out La Yuca Caliente, located on the beach side across from Plaza Paseo. Wonderful location and expertly prepared pasta and fish dishes. The prices are very fair for the amount of food you receive. You are dining al fresco. Try the Pasta Carbonara. TO DIE FOR. Gido, the owner will take good care of you. Bono appetito.

Steve, i was just there a couple of weeks ago and ate there (Yuca Caliente). Very good. I've been going there for years. I also went next door to a wine bar (XO?), they had a lot of hard to find, expensive wines inside a glass case. really enjoyed it. One question. Is Yuca Caliente still owned by the same Italian man from years ago--he and an older Italian woman (i think she passed away) used to own it together.

I ate there last month and had a great meal. The owner recommended the italian style fish (I think it was branzino). It was delicious. Not sure if the owner is the same as before, but he was making an effort to get around to all the tables.

I actually prefer thevsteak at tresccaravelles over chez sandro. Is the steakhouse next to the disco still open. The steaks were weak but they had good appetizers. I swear their chicken fingers tasted like veal cutlets, lol.

Frank:

La Yuca is still owned by, Gido. He is from Rome and has been in LT for over 20 years. I think the women you are describing was his wife and yes she passed a few years ago. Gido, has remarried a local girl and has a child by her. He seems like a real nice guy and his food is delicioso.

Thanks. I've been going to Las Terrenas a long, long time. The land that Alesei Hotel/restaurant is built on belonged to my uncle Papi Genao. He sold it to an Italian around 10 or 12 years ago and they built that fantastic, nice hotel/restaurant on it.

Papi's son, Ivan Genao (my cousin), owns the small clothing store in Plaza Rosada where Scotia bank and the Lindo supermarket is located. it's called "Tu Closet."

My cousins and I started going to Las Terrenas back in the early 90's. A lot has changed for the better.

For the more budget minded, I always loved the food at Los Pinos which is on the beach to the right of the Cemetary.. they, too, have a great pasta carbonara.. but more in the 500 peso range.

I agree, we stayed there too. Food was good, and if they still do the buffet, try it.

I don't know when you ate at Los Pinos but they changed owners about 1.5-2 years ago and I don't believe they have the appetizer buffet any longer. I loved that place when they had that option. The tenderloin with mushroom sauce was fantastic. Havn't ate there under new ownership but I understand it is not as good.

Trying the NE

That is beautiful Stefan! Can anyone tell me what sort of work is available for one with several years of experience in hospitality Calif. based?

The "Calif. based" is of no help/use.

Salaried work (in hospitality) is hardly available. You'd compete with Dominicans at very low wages.
{You would not be able to feed your 3 dogs on such 'income'. BTW, your '3 mastiff type dogs' won't be very welcomed here...}

Stefan took over a small hotel in Las Terrenas and - so I heard - made a nice job of it.
There is no problem of available hotels here (and that should tell you something...).
Your problem then is to fill it... there are not many individual travellers any more (there used to be 15 years ago).
So, I think a 'Se vende' sign should be included in your renovation work... :(

Planing on making a move to the north east side of DR. Bilingual and originally from PR.
NE tourism concentrates on Las Terrenas, Las Galeras and to a lesser degree Santa B?rbara de Saman?.
When it comes to infrastructure (electricity, shopping) LT is best.

You Spanish will undoubtedly help.

There is an English bilingual school in Las Terrenas , the wife may look into it since she has a Master in Education.

We are well pleased with the International School in LT, our daughter is just starting her second year there, she likes it too. The teachers are very helpful and seem to be well educated. Annette Snyder, head teacher and director, is pleasant and helpful, she seems to know what she is doing. Compared to her last school our daughter is learning very well.
