I don’t think it’s normal in the DR. For some reason women keep their name. I would assume they are married. They have kids together.

it is best to just not get married. It will save more problems than the spelling of a last name.
At 53 years, my opinion is that marriage is an antiquated institution. If you were married 30-40 years ago, OK. Especially, to track back on topic, It's primarily the wealthy in DR that are stuck in marriages, because it's frowned on to be a swinging bachelor after a certain age and also divorce is a no no in the eyes of the Catholic church. It's come down to a status and another "my, mine" thing. My marriage, MY children, MY house, MY car, My country club membership. Far too many spend their lives trying to create an identity for themselves through these "My" things.

I feel the same amigo. 26 years together then we went our separate ways in 1999. No regrets other than the legal fees. No kids so the divorce was relatively easy, if divorces are ever easy. I enjoy having no responsibilities. Nothing self centred about it. It’s a wise person who knows their limitations.
