The Abinader government is going to the rescue of the city government of Santo Domingo East, the largest municipality in the country. Manuel Jiménez is the mayor, elected on the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) ticket. A well known singer-composer, Jiménez had no previous experience in government or management.
Jiménez announced that a new fleet of garbage trucks and the backing of the Ministry of Public Works to ensure that the eastern part of Greater Santo Domingo is rid of garbage in the next 45 days.
Altagracia Salazar in her Sin Maquillaje radio talk show highlights that the PRM city governments for the most part have not been successful and have needed the backing of the central government.
