It is a fact. I've done it and Tom0910 claims he knows of some farmacias where you can buy it w/o a prescription. You can buy guns and drugs here, also, and that's not legal here either. Almost anything is possible in the DR!
You need to get a life. You say a Cedula is good for 6 years is plain WRONG information and I corrected it. If buying guns and drugs is your thing. It is NOT mine...........

Being able to illegally purchase a gun and hard drugs is much more to worry about than some mild pain medication w/o a prescription. Again, whether a cedula is good for 6 or 10 years is completely irrelevant to my supposition.

Yes, so back on topic:

The DR government does not trust its own passports, or perhaps legal residency cards as well, but now wants a dual factor authorization using a cedula.
Unless I am mistaken, that is the take away from the news article that says the government wants to more "security".

For dual DR/Other citizens I certainly see where DR the cedula can come into play if they don't hold a DR passport as in no 30 day stay on the entry stamp when entering or exit fines upon leaving after more than 30 days, but they really should do something about being able to be confident in those that do have a DR passport.

They are already doing plenty with passports held by naturalized citizens. You will find out when you attempt to renew yours. You might need to get a short term rental in SD..........

If the cedula number does not matter on the title, why do they ask for a paper copy of a cedula that can be anyone's cedula?
Only in the DR...
My recipe is not to ask questions like that, just go with the flow if you will...

Marbete is basically a car tax for one year. Back home either, it definitely does not matter who pays that as long as it's paid, renewing the marbete is the same thing really. And as it states the placa number, it's also worth nothing to anyone else than who drives the car, so making even less sense...

If the validity of the passport is in question for identity purposes, why don't they just do a finger print scan? Almost 6 years ago when I flew into STI, they did a finger print scan to conform the authenticity of my residency card. POP didn't have this the last time I entered, but I'd bet other airports do(?).

I was already aware that it takes 2 or 3 trips to Santo Domingo to renew a naturalized citizens passport. As much as I hate Santo Domingo, that means I probably will not be renewing mine if Santo Domingo remains the only place that renewal can be done. They have no trust in their own people.

Ah, sorry, Marbetes are the topic. My fault...

Countdown:

- 5 days left to renew your Marbete online.
- Last day in physical (banks, savings and loans) 31st of Jan
Let the panic line of Dominicans jumping over each other begin.
Gringos - better pay a premium for someone to go get yours if you have procrastinated this long - or you could be molested in line.

Bingo! 49% of drivers in the country hasn't made the renovation, yet.

And the DGII director said that this time, no extension whatsoever.
