Prevailing winds are East to West, so when you cross the border you are in the rain shadow, a less extreme version of what happens when you cross the Sierras from California into Nevada. Yes, there has been deforestation, but it's not only that.
Yes, it is only that as Haiti recieves more rainfall on average per year than the Dominican Republic.

Climate change (before we go there) has nothing to with their stupidity either so don't bother.

What rain shadow B.S. are you inventing? Anyone familiar with the island topography knows the the Central mountains run straight into Haiti, there is no rain shadow. Much of the Haitian side of the island was stripped of its trees for firewood and that continues.

The USA made it much worse when they blocked cooking gas from entering Haiti.
Nonsense.
Haitians are spooked and refuse to cook with gas. Why is this?
I have spoken with several over the years and if given a choice, all of them prefer to use charcoal rather than gas because they are afraid the tanks will explode.
Don't believe me?
Ask them.

i actually took the time to read thru the entire link. Be it well written, it made no mention of Haitians somehow being prohibited from cooking with gas nor did I expect it to.

Besides that was roughly 30 years ago. Poor excuse in my opinion.

Seriously, if I used events in my life that happened 30 years ago as an excuse for my bad decisions today, how many people do you think would approve of my behavior?

So you missed the part where it says; impose a trade embargo on all goods except medicine and food.

The border they share with the Dominican Republic was far more porus 30 years ago than it is today. I'm not buying this arguement. You've lived here long enough to know better.

Another shipment of long arms were discovered at the Port of Haina.

Take a close look at the picture of what arms they discovered. Scary stuff.

This was on my FB feed this morning from a Missionary Group in Haiti. They run a home and school for children. The situation is just so so sad.

"About 30 minutes after the prayer request last night, a lot of police armored cars showed up in the area. This held the gang in check, but didn't push them back any. The staff are going to try and get the kids to a safer temporary place this morning, farther away from the fighting. Pray they are able to do this safely. Earlier yesterday morning, the gangs attacked several different areas around Port-au-Prince, the police were outnumbered and couldn't protect all the different areas in force, so the gangs were able to take more territory. When taking territory, they kill and burn many innocent people. Many reports are being told of babies being thrown into fires alive. It seems now their evil has moved to even a deeper depth, not enough just to see blood, but they enjoy hearing the screams of pain, they inflict on people. Please continue to pray."

These fools will likely meet the same fate.
