A fresh injection of about 150 foreign officers arrived in Haiti this weekend to bolster an international security force charged with taking on the powerful and well-armed gangs that have inflicted so much misery on the country for months.
But if the past is any guide this latest infusion is unlikely to make much of a difference.
Back-to-back massacres that killed more than 300 people, followed by a Christmas Eve assault on Haiti’s largest public hospital have underscored the Haitian government’s increasing lack of control over the nation’s deepening crisis.

Well, Haiti has always been beautiful, it’s Hispaniola! lol This reminds me when people say there are very beautiful beaches there too. What would surprise me is if there were none with that long coastline in a Caribbean island said to be among the most beautiful for centuries!

Columbus praised the beauty of the island since 1492.

I once read an excerpt from one of the French colonists in Saint-Domingue when the sky was falling and even he said “is this going to be my end in one of the most beautiful places in the world?”

Samuel Hazard in San Domingo Past & Preseant and a Glance at Haiti describes the scenery he witnessed in the 1870’s as it went from Cap Haitien to Port-au-Prince as “beautiful in the extreme” (though he also said all the mountains were draped vegetation.)

Not long ago Conan O’Brien said what has been said of Haiti forever.

That isn’t the point!

As for Haiti is great already, um no. Not even Haitians want Haiti to be in the situation it’s right now.

Just because you have a coastline doesn't mean there are beaches. There are plenty of rocky and swampy coastlines. I'm sure Haiti has some nice beaches, but nowhere as near as many as the DR.

Have you ever flown into POP from MIA on a clear day? It might have been a spectacular island a long time ago, but Haitians have stripped the mountains of trees leaving them brown and bare. It looks awful from the air. You can also easily see the distinct difference between the DR and Haiti on Google Earth.

But is the scenery still the same after all of the deforestation?
Who does want such a situation? I guess the select few making money there despite the situation.

It doesn't matter what people want, there is no hope for the situation. All efforts to change it fail.

The Haitian police with the backing of the new administration is going after bigger fish to try and reduce gang violence. 16 people , including an ex senator are on their list for aiding and abetting gang violence. Roughly 5600 people died in Haiti last year due to gang violence.

More information is available on the Haitian Times, CTV, and ABC websites.

Watch out to Donald don't get involved there and take over that piece of land and add it to his collection of newly acquired countries Canada Greenland Ukraine Haiti .one thing for sure the Dominican government would love it
Funny RDK! Yes the DR government would feel a great sense of relief if US forces occupied Haiti. If Haiti had proven reserves of gold, oil, and rare earth ore, they would have been there the day after Trump assumed power. Trump’s interest in the Ukraine became more focused when he found out they have proven reserves of rare earth metals. He’s hoping to get a deal for US access.

As for Canada, he doesn’t want us, he wants our resources. Same for Greenland. Not going to happen. The US will get access to the resources through normal business and trade.

Also remember US forces occupied the DR twice to restore order. If civil chaos erupted due to massive numbers of Haitian refugees flooding the DR, I’m pretty sure US troops would be sent to help restore order. Trump doesn’t want the refugees heading to the US.

Prevailing winds are East to West, so when you cross the border you are in the rain shadow, a less extreme version of what happens when you cross the Sierras from California into Nevada. Yes, there has been deforestation, but it's not only that.

Please. Stop trying to excuse the well know fact that Haitians have deforested their country by cutting down the trees for charcoal to cook.
