Hi, we’re looking to get out of our hotel for the night & fancy a meal with a bit of a local vibe. Nothing posh/fancy/expensive, just decent food. Any recommendations?

Thx

I would recommend Citrus. Great food, good wine, reasonably priced. Polla Boracho is also good but more of a pub style

Thanks for this. Having a read online, what is this tax they put on at the end as well as service charge? Is that for all restaurants?

Was mainly reading comments about Captain Cook

18% tax plus 10% tip. Total extra 28%. Some people feel the need to tip extra as well. I don't as it is not mandatory for the restaurants to charge the 10% but if they do then they set the rate

A local feel as in Dominican food? I recommend La Casita de Yeya in Punta Cana Village and Downtown Punta Cana, next to Coco Bongo. Citrus (Plaza Turquesa) is also a good suggestion - the menu is international but they do incorporate Dominican dishes and ingredients. Noah (Plaza Paseo de San Juan) is a lot like Citrus but a bit posher.

Wrong. The law requires all restaurants and hotels to charge the 10%. Article 228 from Law No.16-92 says that an additional 10% must be charged and distributed between all staff who have provided service. If the restaurant doesn't charge this, the staff can go to the Ministry of Labor who will send inspectors and force it to be paid along with a fine.

For some reason I want to say that anytime a restaurant has "Casita" y "Yeya" in the name it's going to be good.

I know of three and now this one in PC makes 4.

I suspect there must be a Yeya School of Dominican cooking somewhere.

I would go for Cheo. A couple of minutes away though.

Thanks for the Citrus recommendation. Really enjoyed. Ended up in a bar after called El Kan (I think), was quiet but nice...

If anyone else has anymore suggestions, we’re looking for something tonight as our hotel now seems to be completely over run with load kids :-/
