A lump appeared under my arm.. and grew quickly.
same side as the removal.

Had it taken out in STI.... bigger than a golf ball.... and deep.

Metastatic melaonoma is when melanoma spreads... so , I have that.

1 week after my surgery, I reported back to the doctor... stitches out and biopsy results.
No surprise... Metastatic melanoma.
He called the Oncologist and referred me. (that puts you front of the line)

In an hour i was done, stitches out, pathology reported to me and Oncology interview... great service.

Now the bad news
RD does not have the newest techniques, the Onco said.
He suggested i head to can/USA pronto (no perde el tiempo)

So I need my pathology report and my sample (my body parts) from the lab... for the new doctors.

Off to Canada Saturday....

what a life.........

I repeat, all the care i got here was excellent.... One removal, one surgery (hospital overnite) and various 'consultas'

Hopefully Canada treats me as well....

London ON.... University Hospital.

I'm lining up appt for next week.

Same drill as here.... the GP gets the first details and moves you on to the Specialist.
The system has a melanoma expert (they say).
I have a Tuesday AM appointment with her... the balls are rolling

Immunology seems to be the way to go.

I understand this to be very 'controllable' , if not curable.

BTW, it's not body parts I need to carry back - just the slides...........whew!!

Wishing you a safe trip and a positive outcome. Good thing you're only carrying slides as the parts themselves would probably be taxable. :)

Good luck my friend.

CLARIFICATION

I don't want to mislead.... the fact that RD doesn't have my needed treatment is no knock on them.
Much of the world doesn't.

Case in point.... I'm looking for PEMBRO
very recently approved for general use in Canada (they tell me) but still in trial stage in the USA... not universally available.
It's a Merck product for immunology.

I'm open to trials, whatever...

but I wanted to clear that up....
there is no shortcoming here in RD... USA is just as lagging (or almost)

This is a new thing, immunology & something all should be aware of , IMO.

I'll report back

and furthermore...........

I am not trying to wrestle the Buster Blowhard title away from its rightful owner - Cdn Gringo ----
BUT

If any of you encounter these health problems , the big kind, be warned -
it takes a bit of gumption to go forward..... kick yourself into gear.

There is large part of me that wanted to hide under my bed and wish it all away... denial , of sorts.

You can't do that.

as the old saying goes (one i try to teach my girls)
The best way through a problem is straight through the middle............

Don't avoid, evade, lie, cheat, squirm..... get at it !!

Face reality.

Here endeth the lesson.

God speed my friend.

A most lucid series of posts that should serve as a wake up call for many of us, me included.
I will be seeing Mar?a Consuelo this week.

Two negatives were given to me..... obviously both wrong.

My NYC daughter , currently in chemo for lymphoma in NYC, was given a negative on her liquid biopsy.
Only the actual node sample provided the positive result.

There are many instances - everywhere- of biopsies coming back negative..... in error.

It's a minefield.....

Thanks HB.... flying at 2:30pm.... doctor's appt Tuesday , 10am in Canada

No perde el tiempo ... were the last words i heard from the doctor
I'm on my fastest, bestest horse.............
