Medical Translation needed!!!
The first list was one of the first I found.....not much help at all but an interesting read!
Second site would be helpful in understanding conditions and diagnosis however not much use for procedures/tests and equipment which is what I really needed.

I'm in the DR too but it didn't stop me trying to assist........ah! the wonders of the electronic age. Done it all now or do you still have terms you don't understand? Btw I once took a set of blood work done in DR to show a doctor friend in UK who doesn't speak one word of Spanish and he had absolutely no trouble in understanding all of it, without any help from me. Probably because the Latin base would have been a prerequisite of his medical training.Que vaina!
Tell that to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan!!!!!!!!!
Of course instead of doing it in English, had I been in the DR I could have got a Haitian to translate it into French!!!!
I have a whole list of drugs that I'm presently translating but am having difficulty with a couple that 'don't compute' meaning Google can't find English or generic equivalents for.
Anyone know what Clatrix is/does???
I'm sure it was explained what it was for at the time but memory fails me 4 months after the fact!

MommC, Clatrix is an antibiotic. The generic name is Clarotromicina. It is use to treat Helicobacter Pylori the bacteria that causes gastritis.

Thanks Not Lurking!!! Now I can find the English generic name......I really am not sure if I need to do this as the names of drugs are just that-names but I want to make sure they have absolutely NO excuse to send the claim back or NOT pay it.
I have in front of me a clain for travel expenses (since we have to travel more than 100 kms outside our city for specialist treatment) from last September that they've sent back 3x. IF they finally pay it we'll get all of $50 back of our expenses for that little journey (should I tell you we've been back four times since then!!!!)
Lambada.....they stopped teaching Latin many years ago and it is not even an elective in most high schools anymore. It is available at some universities depending on which programs are offered by the university (like pre-med or some science or language degree programs).
Also many of the people working in the claims processing depts wouldn't know Latin or a Latin based language if they saw it! (other than Canadian French which they must have and indeed many are only truly literate in THAT Latin based language!)
My DIL was educated solely in the French language schools in Canada and found very quickly her education didn't do her one whit of good once she hit university or the work world (so much for bilingualism!).
Any how I'm almost done!!! Uapa!!!
Now all I need to do is find a certified translator to certify the invoice over $1000. Can for me. They're all done - just need to have them certified so that surely can't cost much (better than 40+ cents a word!!)

I realized one of the invoices was not "itemized and detailed" as per OHIP requiements for re-imbursement. However I do have the referral report from the Drs. who were treating him that outline tests, medications etc.
Problem is there is a lot of really technical jargon that I am hesitant to tackle.
Finally got a lead on a translator in the city (don't know if she translates Spanish until I talk to her) only to find out she's away for another three weeks.

pulmones: esterores finos basal derecho - lungs: rasping sounds to bottom of right lobe
hepatoesplenomegalia -enlarged liver (liver enlargement)
cardiomegalia moderada a expensas de vi -moderate cardiac enlargement at his expense
aorta esclerotica ligero infiltrado bpd -
calcificaciones pequenias hiliares- small ? calcifications

Well after finding out that the 'possible' certified translator is on holidays for another three weeks and hitting a brick wall I've taken my plea the curmudgeon and emailed him all relevant documents to have them translated in Santiago and Fed-Exed back to Canada.
I did manage to submit 7 completed forms (with 23 pages of itemized, detailed, translated invoices) today.
Now the 2 month wait to see if OHIP will cover 50% of them.
I've discovered that ANY dealings with gov't are a royal pain in the butt (once again!!) and the systems set up by gov't are not only next to impossible to navigate but also very cost INEFFECTIVE.
I'm off to Sudbury (98 miles away) to get a three number code on a form that OHIP has sent back for the THIRD time!!!! Each time with a different item requiring 'revision'.
This particular claim for a travel 'grant' (since we must travel to get the life saving treatment needed) has been bouncing around in the system since last September.
Since it is now June and if I manage to finally 'fill in' all the blanks and get it submitted tomorrow I may actually receive a $40 Can reimbursement of expenses by THIS September. Of course from that I'll have to deduct postage, long distance phone calls, un-necessary Dr visits (to have portions of the form filled in and signed by the referring Dr.) so my net reimbursement will be worth about $8.78. OHIP will have paid approximately $387.36 in costs to keep this thing 'circulating' through the system including the fees for the un-necessary Dr. visit (after all the Dr get paid by OHIP for the office visit!)
Private insurance (if you are able to get it) is Sooooooooo much easier!!
