President Danilo Medina handed over the Navarrete-Puerto Plata road, which was reconstructed and extended. The road had been a commitment made by the Medina administration when Carnival Cruises and Dominican investors proposed the construction of what would be Amber Cove in Maimón. Amber Cove is the country’s largest cruise ship facility. It is located off the same main access road to Puerto Plata provinces with its city and beach attractions.

Nevertheless, Amber Cove opened in 2015 with only a small stretch of the road closest to the port completed with the duplication of the roadway with four lanes of 3.65 meters each, and 2.40-meter sidewalks. Amber Cove is now closed due to the suspension of cruise ship travel around the worl.

In the last months, the Medina administration repaved the entire Puerto Plata-Navarrette highway (46.8 km). With a maximum...

Correct me if I am wrong, but apparently President Medina will pass to history as one who has built most roads during his term. And the one who initiated the 911 service.

911 service began in the first Medina term, in 2013. It since then was expanded. So it is correct he initiated the 911 service by consolidating access to dozens of assistance government entities. The US and Taiwan governments helped, at least in the first years.

Not sure about the roads. Think Balaguer built more. Medina was President for 2012-2016 and 2016-2020 (8 years). But Balaguer was President for three consecutive terms on two occasions -- 1966-1970, 1970-74, 1974-78; 1986-1990, 1990-1994, 1994-1996 (22 years). He was against taking international loans and built roads using taxpayer money.

Medina has borrowed big for the construction of roads. Not that borrowing is bad for building roads, just making the observation Balaguer built much infrastructure using savings he generated by spending less on payroll, propaganda, etc.

The Ministry of Public Works has borrowed heavily against the tolls collected under the Medina administration. Lots of that will be known when the government changes.

The worst deal of all the roads is probably that signed under the government of former President Leonel Fernandez. Am referring to the Samana toll road that was given in concession to a company with the World Bank backing. That contract could very well be given the title of the worst signed by a Dominican government when taking into consideration the collective good. Dominicans could have built two of those roads with what has been paid and still many many years to go on that contract.

The photo shows a two way road. Shouldn't those center lines be yellow?

I would think that the white lines with separations indicate that people can pass at the section in the photo.
