Many thanks Pichardo for this superb album of photos mainly around the capital.. They are truly superb and show how much you know about Santo Domingo . I do not agree that you have to show the dirt ... you never see the bad side of Rome , Madrid or Paris so why need we show it here.. Congratulations..really great

But you should say where this photo is taken and when. It is not recent but it is the beautiful par 5 at Playa Grande ..one of the many wonderful holes on this golf course that is in bad condition now

one of the most beautiful pieces of real estate i have ever had the pleasure of seeing.

Kipling,
That's a photo of the old par 3 17th in the foreground and the par 4 11th in the background with the dogleg right, I believe. Maybe you're thinking of the par 5 18th that would have been to the immediate right in that photo?

I'm not sure the current new configuration of the holes, but driving by the condition of the back 9 looks pretty phenomenal at highway speed

Yes you are correct ..it is 17 which sometimes has the green foreward away from the point No I am not thinking of the 18th . I was thinking about hole number 4 or 5 where you drive along the cliff and then you have the option of going over the water with a fairway metal onto the green or playing safe to the left . The next hole is a longish par 4 away from the ocean normally into a stiff breeze . If what you say is correct and the course has returned to playable conditions that seems wonderful because it is a great place to go to and stay at the Hotel la Catalina in the hills nearer Cabrera . I used to go there every year for a week but the course was sold and there were many problems. But the former professional there , Julio Santos is a wonderful Dominican golfer who occasionally plays on a secondary PGA tour ..Sorry I made an error with the hole number

I dont think those aluminum posts where made for streets with cars. They look nice but I suspect they where made for pedestrian areas. Instead they should have used those canon ball type posts. Fit better in with the colonial zone and if a car bumps into them the car gets damaged.

It's known as selective photography. I wish someone would take and post pictures of the real Santo Domingo.

I agree. Anyone traveling from the airport into the city is going to be very disappointed if they are looking for something reminiscent of these photographs.

Haitian kid at the chicken plucking station in Higuey, about 6AM. He dips them in hot water for about a minute, then into the tumbler behind him that pulls the feathers off. I wonder how many he does a day...

Plantains still on the stems. They'll get cut into "hands" then loaded onto smaller trucks. Also about 6AM.

One of many wholesale stores in the open market. Busy early so the buyers can get back to their local stores and prob wholesale to other colmados.
