US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo tweeted about his scheduled Sunday visit to the Dominican Republic. Pompeo will be coming with Michael Kozak, Acting Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs. Reports are he will be accompanied by a 30+ delegation.
Given the Covid-19 epidemic, the inaugural celebrations of President-elect Luis Abinader start of government are limited to a luncheon for important visitors at the Presidential Palace on Sunday after the ceremony at the National Assembly. The swearing-in ceremony begins at 10am at the National Assembly.
In a tweet, U.S. Secretary Pompeo said: “Looking forward to visiting the Dominican Republic on August 16th and congratulating newly elected President @luisabinader. The U.S. values our Caribbean neighbors and looks forward to strengthening U.S.-Dominican cooperation to support a safer and more prosperous region.”
