No worries, bachata is still everywhere. And within 10 years Dembow might be also part of cultural identity…

Bachata used to be considered sort of low class until a few local artists started releasing bachata productions and then it went main stream. I remember when Sonia Silvestre, who was a respected artist, released a bachata song that became very popular. Of course, Juan Luis Guerra has been, perhaps, the one who has helped promoted it the most. Now even Justin Timberlake recorded a Bachata with Romeo Santos.

I heard that in the times of Trujillo Merengue was not very well regarded at the beginning, and that he was the one who started getting it played in in elegant parties. I guess its the same story with multiple types of music. For me, it´s just hard to think about Dembow.

My husband is old school, he still considers most bachata low class 😂. When he left DR, merengue was still king, and time stood still for him. Forget dembow or reggaeton. If Omega comes on the radio he changes the station.

I love watching folks dancing to merengue and bachata until they start the uncontrollable grinding on each other.

Ever since the pandemic there hasn't been many good bachata songs released - mostly dembow. Maybe it was something in the vaccines(?).
