The Ministry of Culture (MINC), recently shaken up by personnel issues, has just released a mandate (Resolution 17-2024) aimed at curbing the vulgarity flooding Dominican airwaves. The resolution outlines in a general way the proper behavior of radio and television stations as well as any public artistic event.

The resolution, signed by Minister of Culture Milagros Germán, is based on various articles of the Dominican Constitution, as well as laws and decrees that regulate the operation and responsibilities of the media.

The resolution instructs the National Commission of Public Shows and Radio Broadcasting (CNEPR) to disseminate these guidelines massively to all media outlets and to carry out constant monitoring to ensure their compliance. It also urges alternative platforms to take these guidelines into account.

If only we could wave a majic wand and poof... change modern day Dominican culture. Dream on Milagros. It will take several generations to fix this mess. No doubt this will be ignored by everyone from entertainers to broadcasters.

It's about time. The DR has more than it's share of potty mouth women on talk shows.

At the risk of being ridiculed with all manners of super-duper witty comments, I maintain that Dominicans have low communication standards, AND it ain't just women with the potty mouths; men are equally offensive and downright STUPID.

Take the case of Julio Martínez Pozo (séptico), who's considered by almost everyone (pero yo no) to be an exceptional journalist. He insulted the highly respected Attorney General, the honorable Miriam Germán Brito, and most other so-called journalists celebrated his outburst... IN THE NAME of a free press.
Then there are the talk shows: Carlos Durán tells Jessica Pereira that his girlfriend's sex organ resembles that of a 12-year-old girl's. Yes: he has received accolades and trophies EVEN after that 'cute' comparison.

Comedian-wannabe and punchline-repeating former Catholic priesthood student, Ariel Santana, invites "sex expert and medical professional" to his show in order to ask her about the proper techniques of cunnilingus. The only thing comical about Ariel Santana is that he portrays himself as the Dominican Lenny Bruce.

And then there's the father of Dominican success stories: Held to the highest degree of regard, Santiago Matias, aka Alofoke, has insulted everyone and their future offsprings. He gets a pass because of that culture of lambonismo that's ingrained in our DNA. He has also received recognition by the Arts and Entertainment folks. The usual excuse is that, "well, he's made a lot of money, Joseito."
His preferred insult is MMG-azo and/or MMÑMA.

When I was to listen to educated persons discussing the latest topics, my one and only is La 91.

La 91 carries the 12 y 2 segment with Karina Larrauri and Sergio Carlo. Both of them are excellent communicators.

I remember when they started.

La Matutina de la Manana has always been a favorite, as is Pedro Maria Santana in the afternoons.

I listened to Teo Veras en la manana for many years. Always informative and respectful.

It was really sad when he passed.
