After the flash floodings of Friday and Saturday, 17 and 18 November, the Ministry of Education ordered public schools to remain closed on Monday and Tuesday, 20 and 21 November 2023, to assess damages and prepare to reopen this week. The Ministry of Education also ordered private schools that were not affected to reopen on Monday nationwide

Just when they couldn't squeeze in another work shop or saint holiday, here come two paid days off for post rain chicanery. Head over to your public schools folks - watch the engineers assess infrastructure!

Hysterical. Public schools must close for two days, but private schools must stay open.
While not siding with the charlatans and their 2 additional paid time off days, I would imagine they are not liable for the structures of private schools? At least that's what they would probably argue in school court.

This government is a joke. They also shut down all businesses on the North Coast Sunday at 3pm because of the possible rain.

We were told we had to close Monday and Tuesday and then at 10:30 after my wife had informed all the parents the school District messaged her and told she could open on Monday. We opened in the Afternoon. None of the Public schools here were even close to being flooded.

Yeah I hope that becomes more of general rule.. "Tomorrow there's a possibility of rain so let's close everything down" 😂

Yeah if I don't remember incorrectly, during the pandemic the at the time Minister of education said that DR does have 1 School system and not 2.
However, just as during the pandemic and in time and time again, private schools are one thing, and public schools something different.
That doesn't bother me, however, lets call spade a spade.
If private schools wants to keep their doors closed or open, just let them, don't interfere in private businesses, which they are.

Private schools are regulated by the government. We have numerous forms and statistics that they require. They inspect the schools, monitor classes...etc.

Like you Bob, we cancelled for Monday and then Received the new message that we could open. We stayed closed. I sent a message to our parents that today we would be open but only half of our students showed up.

The Ministry talks out of both sides of their mouth. When it is convenient for them (and to show their authority) we must follow their calendar and systems, and when they would rather we not get in their way, they do not include us in their mandates.
