The Ministry of Foreign Relations (Mirex) has notified Senegal of the finding of 14 human remains and IDs of its citizens in a boat drifting off the Dominican north coast, as reported in Noticias SIN. Around 60 backpacks with IDs of African citizens were found on board.
Mirex reported the discovery of the bodies of 14 individuals on a boat near the coastal town of Villa Magante, Espaillat province. For starters, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) has notified Senegalese officials of the grim find.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased were migrants from various African countries, including also Somalia, Mali and Mauritania. Dominican Attorney General’s Office is working to confirm the identities of the victims through documents found on board. Officials estimate that the bodies may have been at sea for 15 to 20 days.
