The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic is conducting a survey of the micro-companies in the country.

As is probably known by some, in the last few years the Dominican government has been giving financing and free counseling for one year to people with a business idea in order for them to start even if they don’t have start up money and learn the basics of running a business. The main requisite is that the person must be from a poor household. Until the Dominican government got involved, banks didn’t loan to anyone intending to create a micro-company and anyone that was poor on the premise that the poor don’t pay back. This government program has helped many poor people get a start with their business, particularly poor unemployed women who are single mothers.
