Absolutely. They are debutantes who spend their entire youths in preparation for this level of contest. All that singing, violin, piano, ballet and other training in the fine arts along with instruction in comportment and cultural values isn't cheap.

These Women aren't meant to simply represent the beauty of their nations but the cultural development as well which is why pictures are nice but we won't know who might possibly win out until the competition plays out. Fights are never decided at the "weigh-in" or as Chris Berman would remind us "That's why they play the games".

As far as judging and what constitutes beauty in a beauty contest goes.................... Sorry, but I find there to be nothing more ugly than a Young girl trying to blag her way through an onstage interview and believes we all love someone who wants to feed the poor, end war and hug a tree, or as they usualy say in these things 'world peace' (while standing infront or millions in a bikini). And so I find that physical beauty is pretty much all I have to go on when making a judgement in these things.

LOL! These girls know how to play the game. Notice how most of the ones who do win is not based
on beauty (although it should, after all it does say, beauty pageant) but so called intelligence. All
they have to say is how they would like to make the world a better place by feeding the hungry
and wishing that all mankind could live in peace and harmony.:classic:

That's intelligence.

I concede that point.

That being said, how's about we at least get to see them walking around in the bathing suits and evening gowns before we start throwing eggs and rotten tomatoes at them.

We'll never know which one of them will have that "certain something" until they get to strut their stuff.

Intelligently, of course and in the interest of world peace and an end to hunger. :nervous:

OMG. You want this lady to represent SC? (used as an example).

She sounds like exactly what I'd expect of "Miss South Carolina".

I'll bet she's a good breeder though. You got to focus on the big picture. She's probably the delight of cocktail parties all over Charleston.

It doesn't matter how ridiculous the idea is as long as she makes an attempt at being well spoken.

A really great contestant would've answered "Because they're already here" and stuck out her tongue. That's where intelligent and sexy come together.

Well maybe that was a little harsh. I just didn't find any of them all that attractive or eye catching. I am sure there is much better out there.

Frank us from Santiago simply have higher standards than the rest of men in the island, and who can blame us! I remember seeing the Haitian candidates from last year and I think they look much better than the these girls, is this really the best Haiti can present? I'll have to agree with those who have said they've seen better looking Haitian women selling fruits in the streets.

And you are - self-description please. First of all most people commenting are neither old nor mongers; some are women. I haven't commented yet but I guess now I will. I'm not old yet, but I'm getting there. I'm not fat, bald, or a monger or ex-monger. Your snide comment about Dominicans aside, I've only seen a few streetwalkers here in Jarabacoa and the ones I've seen represent both Dominican and Haitian nationalities. Almost all of them are blessed with good bodies but faces, not so much. Many ( most) of the Haitian women here in Jarabacoa work in Agriculture and they run the gamut from faces that could stop a truck to faces so beautiful you'll stop and stare.
The only thing I've noticed about most of these beauty contestants in they are on average much lighter skinned than the average Haitian girl.
