I've been to Moscow, have a few Russian friends and I've never met a Russian I didn't like. No need to bash them. Politics is an ugly sport in any arena.

The fact they are still willing to show solidarity with the Dominican Republic even after the US government forced them to stop allowing direct flights tells me two things. Not only do they understand how America bullies smaller countries into submission, they also value their relationship with the Dominican people.
I think in nearly every country in the world ,the overwhelming majority of people want to live in a peaceful and friendly way so it is not surprising that you liked the Russians that you met. In the DR I have never met with open hostility . I feel very confident that 99% of Russians have never heard of the Dominican Republic and if they had heard of the name they probably think we are in Africa!

Most of the Russians I have met here since Putin declared war on Ukraine had no idea what was going on due to media censorship.
I am not being negative but why is Putin sucking up to the DR. What could he possibly gain from doing this. Most Latin America countries remember what the cold war did for Cuba. They are still in the stone ages compared to the rest of the Caribbean.

The thing is...
The Russian people have very little say about what Putin wants or what Putin does.
I reserve my bashing for Putin and my sympathy for the Russian people.
Putin need all the friends he can get right now.
He is not above doing a little pandering.

Russia has been behind some targeted assassinations worldwide - but I don't trust them less than the US in that regards.
But their tactics of purposely targeting civilians and sending their own men to fight in a war without modern equipment shows the callousness of their command.

There are 29 countries that have their colours as red and white and blue including the USA, Russia and Great Britain and also North Korea. I can see zero evidence in the photo that the clours are for the Dominican Republic... there were large marches last week to celebrate the beginning of The Ukraine offensive and it is more than likely that these lights were there for Russia . The DR has openly given their support to NATO and the USA against Russia and at this stage no Russian flights enter the DR .I would suspect that Acento is on the wrong wave length.
Take a close look at the buildings again. The "squares" of colors on the top half are blue then red , while on the bottom half the "squares" are red then blue, with all the squares separated by white "bands" of lights - exactly like the Dominican flag. No other country has that pattern/layout.

I wonder how many Ukrainians are friendly to Russia still?
Several of them have fled to countries around the Mediterranean like
Turkey and Greece. I have yet to hear or read about there being any notable
problems among the two groups. I imagine all of them would be on their best
behavior (always a guest) so as to not be sent home.

Some Americans think Punta Cana is a country. When it comes to geography, Americans are about as dumb as they get.
Wow, I have never met anyone who thought Punta Cana is a country. Very interesting comment you made.

Has anyone not noticed that this wasn't done by the Russian government and much less Putin? He may be Russia's president, but Russians are a lot more thsn one man.

In New Orleans there was a building light up in Dominican flag colors for Dominican independence day. Biden did that? Yeah, right.

Really? The article says it was done by the city of Moscow where the Kremlin just happens to be located. Nothing is going to happen in Moscow that Putin doesn't approve of.

City of Moscow isn't the government of Russia. What happened in Doha, Qatar was an initiative from the national government of the country. Even the Emir of Qatar (aka the king) took several photos holding a Dominican flag in front of a couple of buildings that themselves were light up in the Dominican flag too. No such thing was done by Putin or anyone from the national government of Russia.

As they do in the USA. Have you seen some of those embarassing videos asking what country is Hawaii in?
Absolutely love those videos.

In Vegas or Time Square:

Q.: Can you name a country that starts with 'U'?

A.: UTAH!

Can you name a country that starts with the letter 'I'?

ISLAM!
=============
Near any Dominican university:

¿Dónde está el canal de Panamá?

(University student asks to have question repeated)
(University student then repeats it to himself several times)
(University student asks to have same question repeated AGAIN)

Dominican university student, with arms akimbo and in a contrapposto pose, feeling proud of his accurate answer: <<Aquí en República Dominicana>>.
