Mildred Correa, a grieving mother who took the drastic step of exhuming her daughter’s remains and bringing them to the prosecution office to demand justice, had been arrested after the act. She was released from custody. Correa had carried her daughter’s body into the Higüey courthouse on Tuesday, 14 January 2025 in a desperate plea for closure regarding the teen’s death. The mother did not accept the handling of the case by the judiciary.

Correa’s attorney explained that her release was made possible under Article 34 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows prosecutors to exercise discretion in cases with potential sentences of less than a year. This legal provision applies to the unauthorized exhumation of a corpse, as outlined in Articles 358-360.

“We have secured her release,” the attorney stated. “Now, we will launch a new investigation from scratch to seek justice if the...

Seeking Justice and digging out the body of your own child after almost a year and dragging it to the courthouse in a garbage bag are two different things.
My humble opinion: TRUE PSYCHO that should have been translated to a mental facility to get the help that she obviously needs.

I wouldn't call her a psycho, but I was thinking the same thing. This poor woman is in very bad shape and needs help. She will likely get neither the help she needs, nor the investigation she wants.

Spill acid on the Forensics Face that came to the conclusion that there was no foul play involved or does she need to burn down the House of the DA that decided that there is nothing to be investigated !? just asking !

I think this poor woman is truly traumatized over her daughter’s death, and definitely needs some medical attention to help her cope and get on with her life.
Death of a child could send any mother or father into a tailspin. I can't imagine that intense pain.
I mourned for a long periods several times over the deaths of my dogs, but we all know they will likely go before us.
But a child is supposed to around to bury a parent

Good post CB. My oldest first cousin lost her 52 year old autistic son unexpectedly to cancer last fall. He was gone in two months. She devoted her life to him. She is still traumatized by the loss. As you say, children should bury parents. The desperation of this DR mother is understandable given the depth of her trauma. Labelling her doesn’t help.

Regarding dogs, I’ve had many over the years . My last one, a Siberian Husky, lived for 15 years. It took me two months to gather the courage to have him put down by a vet. He had severe arthritis and was almost blind. Haven’t had any dogs since then. Not children obviously, but loyal friends.

That pain is unimaginable until experienced. It will be three years in March since my son died. I am still in a tailspin!

I remember saying to friends that no mother should have to bury a child.

This mother in the DR needs help and support.

This woman is not a psycho, unless you have lost a child you have no idea whatsoever what that person is going through. I lost my daughter 3 years and 13 days ago and the pain hasn't even started to subside.
In what movie do you live ???? If she is not a Psycho than who is ? Nobody will ever argue that loosing a child so young is by far the worst that can happen to any mother. But this women obviously has lost her mind. The last thing she needs is people supporting her totally insane actions. I would even go so far and call her a Danger to society.

It does sound like she may need some emotional assistance but until you have been in her situation it is hard to judge one's reaction.

I get your point, but to me a psycho is someone who goes after strangers on the street with a machete screaming about the devil, although this woman is clearly descending into madness if she's not already there. If she's self medicating it will only hasten her descent. The people who once tried to console her now walk the other way when they see her because they can no longer tolerate her obsession. Once she finds herself completely isolated, she may want to join her daughter.

A question that the article didn't address: How was she able to exhume the body? In my native land this typically requires a court order. "I want to bring her remains to the courthouse" will probably be refused - unless it's election day.

Just go to the cemetery, open the grave and take out the bones. There's not a huge amount of respect for cemeteries here.

I have been to one and it was a mess, no engraved tombstones or flowers or any maintenance. Visiting a grave and maintaining it by family doesn’t seem common here.

The girl died only 10 month ago ! We are talking about a half composed Body and not some Dry Bones. I do not even want to imagine what was in this Bag. If you want do exhume a Body for Paternity Testing, they want allow it before 5 years have been passed just to avoid this mess.
