Motorcycles are everywhere. The explanation is that 56.1% of the vehicles circulating in the country are two-wheeled bikes. The Tax Agency (DGII) reports there are 5,463,962 vehicles in circulation.

The Tax Agency has a registration of 3,063,704 motorcycles. A report in Hoy says that of these, only 829,363 (27%) are registered with the National Transport & Transit Institute (Intrant).

The DGII records reveal that there were 189,114 new registrations of motorcycles in 2022. This is 6.6% more than in 2021.

14% of the total number of motorcycles are located in the National District, 13.7% in Santo Domingo, 7.7% in La Vega, 6.4% in Santiago, 6.2% in San Cristóbal and the remaining 32.5% in the other provinces.

Time to start crushing the unregistered. You can't drive a car long without a fine if you do not have your registration sticker in the window - do the same for motos.
And it sure seems like more than 56% of vehicles are motos.
Heck there are delvery trucks rolling through Sosua every day with 30 more new Chinese crappy-built motos

Honda and Yamaha Motos are unaffordable for most Dominicans that's why Chinese are popular now. I always owned Honda and Yamaha in DR, here in the US I used to have a Honda Shadow 900 CC but got rid of it Three years ago.

Amen. And I was a biker. Hopefully, the new area they're building will hold a lot more bikes.

They also need a law that prohibits bikes from being released until they have plates and insurance.

Those RTR Apache bikes from India seem to be much better than the Chinese junk that never lasts, seeing a lot of them with motoconchos and they are faster and way smoother and quieter (160 & 180 cc)

Back in the days when I was still living in DR the most popular Motoconchos bikes Top #1 in the list used to be RX 115 Yamaha. And Honda C-70 for poor areas.

There are a couple of problems for people wanting to register motos. One is that dealers take an age to come up with the matricula for new bikes, if they ever do. The second is changing the ownership on the matricula. You have to find the person whose name is on the matricula and the bike could have changed hands several time since then. Then, if you can find the person you have to go through a complicated and expensive legal process to complete the transfer.

The entire process of dealing with motorcycles needs to be tightened up. It should be a requirement to do 'traspasos' within 15 days or the vehicle is impounded until it's done.
There should be a 'motorcycle department' that deals specifically with them and enforces regulations.
The problem is the number of bike owners in the country. Huge voting blocks a politician doesn't want to alienate.

It's all about the votes. Any politician who speaks up to rein in the moto chaos is signing his political death warrant.
