The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) has made it easier for Dominicans to relocate. As of Tuesday, 27 October 2020, there is no additional charge for calling fixed lines nationwide. Previously, the telecom companies charged for the calls and the use of 1+ was needed to complete the calls. No more.

All fixed lines are now part of the Single Rate Zone with the same rate for all calls. The National Long Distance rate is removed. This means that all calls made between the National District and the 31 provinces have the same price as a local call.

Julissa Cruz, executive director of Indotel, explains that 10% of the calls now made in the country are made to fixed lines.

Cruz said this also means that if for years your home number was located in Puerto Plata and you moved to Santo Domingo or Punta Cana for work, you can take your number with you. The measure...

Good idea, I hated when we lost our house # when we moved 7 miles away.

This thread made me remember the days when it was almost impossible to get a land line in DR decades ago. Cell phones changed the country.
