Forget about the jobs. Just simply forget about coming here if you need to work at something unless you have some amazing connection to a job that pays well here that no one else has ever found.

I am going to take the contrarian view here. Mr bens, come on down. Bang out as many chicas as you can with the money you got from selling your car. If you have some good swagg skills you can go through a whole bunch of chicas with that money.
When it runs out go back to the U.S, save up some more cash and do it all over.

Just make sure he has enough to cover the lotions needed before going back to the US. He might need it until his next visit to whore heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the OP. Congratulations on meeting a wonderful girl.
Keep in mind you really do not know her or her true intentions yet. Many upper class Dominican ladies would quickly tire of a broke dude living in poverty, who is unable to provide her the type of lifestyle she has become accustomed.
Your premature move may be your undoing.
Use this situation as motivation to improve your circumstances before making any permanent move. Visit for extended periods first. Rent a short term apartment for a few months. If this girl is a class act, she will wait for you, as long as you visit often. Good luck.

I knew this post will create a lot of reply. My advice to you as a Dominican is to come here more than just one time because what it is happening to you now is that you got Jungle fever.

See the girl in 2 or 3 more visits and if she ask you about getting into the USA then forget about her and move on.

Another big questions does she have a job, her own car, has kids, live alone or with her family and in what part of the city.

The fact that you asked about Why people don't use solar power in The DR shows how little you know about the country. Since it sounds like you're smitten and you're probably going to go ahead with this anyway heed the advice that has been given to take it slow, visit a few times for extended periods to get a better lay of the land, etc...maybe try moving away from Seattle. I know a lot of people who love that city, but to me it is depressing as hell.

Really high attempted suicide rate in Seattle. I know that weather would be a problem for me.

@bens.

I loved your story. Spent time on Okinawa doing a survey of the effects of brine discharge on the reef system from the desalination plant there. That was the sunabi seawall. Great dive by the way. Also had a girl there. An english teacher at the air force base there. She was the last white woman I ever went out with. Met a Dominicana when I left and I've never looked back.

Contrary to what you will be reading, jobs are available all around the Caribbean. I don't know what your MOS was, but you need to look for American companies doing business down here. Phamacutical manufacturing, and industrial construction are good areas here. You have to think outside of the box keeping in mind that American companies are looking for Americans that they can trust to get things done in an abnormal environment. FYI, ALL the islands down here are abnormal regarding work ethic. Use that to your advantage when talking to the corporations that you find. Spanish is a big plus. I'd start learning rapidly if I were you.

Not going to say anything about the woman you met. No need to as I'm sure you have seen and know horror stories of men in third world countries. I will tell you that I love Dominicam women. They are absolutely wonderful. I also like your idea of a getaway plan. Definately have a way out if needed. The solar panel question is easy. Penny concious and pound foolish pretty much sums it up.

Good luck to you. Ever forward!
