Had a rack and pinion leak. Loky fixed it for 20K pesos. Still leaking, he replaced the power steering pump 3 times additional 6,500, still leaking.
Went to him every day for a week. Each time he said it was fixed, still leaking. He suggested I leave him the car for 3 or 4 days and he well take it
to pop and find a specialist. Not doing that.

Went to the German garage, he said he would call me but he is full now and suspects it will be a while. Been 2 weeks and no word.

Any other mechanics in Sosua?

Pass on your second choice unless you want something broken that wasn't broken before you went and done with a surly attitude

Cabarete
I've used Mello in Cabarete for 13 years. He's repaired a wide variety of things and has always done good work. He just put in a new engine for me.

Bernardo on the main road of Sosua just east of the Metro bus station. Have trusted him for over 15 years and yes, if he can't figure out the problem he takes our car to the dealer in Santiago.

Do you mean Loti, opposite the entrance from Sosua Ocean Village?

Can't stand that guy. He makes a living ripping off gringos and does it unashamedly. He even admitted as such to me.

He's ripped me off too. Known him for many years but the typical Dominican "confianza" gets too much for them and will make a quick buck at your expense, regardless if a so called friendship has blossomed.

Sadly I can't recommend a decent car mechanic on the north Coast with complete confidence. At a stretch, I would call Konstantin. He has a fairly good general knowledge. He does a lot of the work himself rather than delegating to semi skilled locals.

Greg is a good mechanic, but he delegates all work out and supervises from the sidelines.

That's puzzling(?). Over the years I've probably used him over 20 times. I know enough about cars to usually know what's wrong or to know if his diagnosis is right. I know what parts cost and how much labor is involved and never felt overcharged, much less ripped-off. Everything he's done is a fraction of the price I would have paid in the US. Have you ever tried Kenny in Canta La Rana? A good Dominican friend of mine swears by him.

I took it to Konstantin. He said the power steering pump was bad. Parts and labor 14,000 pesos. It works
just fine, good work. He did find a small oil leak and wants me to bring it back Tuesday.

Loty/Loky said he would fix the oil leak for 10,000 pesos but didn't know where it was coming from.

Loty/Loky replaced the power steering pump 3 times, saw him every day for a week. Each day he said it was fine.
Took the last one he installed that Konstantin replaced and asked for a refund. He laughed and said no. Expected that but
thought I would try to get some pesos back LOL
