Anyone can pay $200 and take a weekend writing workshop on how to write romance novels.

But only dr1ers are qualified to write the all time best selling Sanky Sagas. Of course, a title like that will squelch sales before they start, so the first question I have for you all is ... what would you suggest for a title?

Seriously.

1. We'll take titles and go from there.

Some awful possibilities:
"Sun Sick"
"The Devils's Kiss"
"Sosua Sunset"

Bring 'em on!

2. What shall we call our "lady" in the novel?
Wanda
Ellen
Krissy

(please no names from this board - be careful - and first names only).

3. What shall we call "him":

(please no names from this board - be careful - and first names only).

Antonio
Carlos
Eduardo
Felipe

What else? (I am thinking good reading for foks who do not know much about the RD; this is not a thread for naming the guy who did your friend wrong, please...)

4. Where shall we set the first in this series of best-selling vacation dramas?

a. Punta Cana
b. Boca Chica
c. POP
d. Las Terrenas
e. you name it!

Be careful, the most romantic spots might catch on due to overwhelming demand for the book .... and get spoiled!

5. What type of lodgings does she stay in:

a. a fancy AI
b. a cheesy AI
c. a bread and breakfast - nice big house
d. a small Dominican style hotel - next to a carwash and with a little old lady owner
e. anything else?

That's enough for day one of our workshop.

Thanks!

6.
.. P.S. I had a lightbulb go off after a run-in with Short Gary.

The sanky must hang out with his sanky pals and we will need names (first names only) for the pack of them. Let's make them a group of 4 - how does that sound? One bad sanky, two medium, and one in training.........what do you think?

4. Where shall we set the first in this series of best-selling vacation dramas?
d. Sosua and Puerto Plata once he changes hotels

5. What type of lodgings does she stay in:
b. a cheesy AI where she meets them - then a dominican style hotel for her second trip

Thanks A.J.!

Thanks A.J.!

Well, with not much help from my comadres on this board, I have been forced to make some executive decisions regarding the future best-seller.

I know that you all have, despite the absence of posts, been holding your breath and waiting to read more.

So, here goes.

After much deliberation, I have decided that we will start Chapter One with the Target. Then procees to meet and get to know the Sanky in Chapter Two. In Chapter Three we will meet HIS friends. And from there we will meet their paychecks. And it can go around and end up back with the first chica.

Also, I had to make a tough decision. I ended up opting for a 40 something heroine. I know that there are plenty of younger ones, but I think we'll get more play with this demographic.

So, please vote for the best heroine. OR provide an alternate:

1. Wanda, a nurse from the mid-west USA, recently divorced. Her husband left her for a younger woman. She is in Weight Watchers and planning a tropical vacation with other nurses.

2. Ellen, a Canadian insurance claims adjuster, never married, no children, fit and perky, and just noticing some fine lines creeping in around the eyes. Her last boyfriend had cheated on her for three years straight, and she just finds this out the day before her tropical vacation.

3. Krissy, a dental technician from Dallas, Texas. Her last boyfriend cheated on her, with a man. She thinks that she needs a breast lift, and watches Oprah religiously. She eats Lean Cusine and has no idea what Reggaeton is.

4. Paula, a community-college Spanish instructor from Philadephia who dated an abusive Mexican man for years and finally got free. She just quit smoking, lost ten pounds, and does her daily affirmations while popping multi-vitamins. She is taking latin dance lessons as soon as she gets back from her tropical vacation.

Note: If these descriptions offend you, please note that they were derived from interviews and reading up on many true stories. I have not at all intended to offend or insult here. -- Sam

Helpmann - yeah, yeah - we all know that classic.

But we want to write something that more exactly describes an accurate RD sanky adventure. With the post-groove drama as well.

Thanks for posting - can you choose a heroine (#1-4) or describe one you've known and loved? JUST kidding. Cuidate mi amor!

alright Sam. I have a few questions on the these people.
1) why are all the these people women?
2) I like where your going with they're life story. I don't like that they're past relationships have been a failure. Change the story make one of the girls to be endaged and they are going on a ladies only vacation and she plays her husband to be with a Dominican Entertainer in the Hotel she and her friends are staying in.
Play with it.
** I like the way your going, but it's missing something. Are all of them going to be going to RD for vacation?
I guess you can make it a American fallin in love with a Dominican Summer Vacation story. I have seen soooooooooo many times. I feel you should have a better story to write. Mostly on the lifes of real Dominican couples that have to remarry someone else for papers to come to the United States and have to make a living; While the women he love and his children are lonly and scary for they're father's life. OR life as a Dominican worker at a hotel. He meets the love of his life while working at the hotel.} Its story would mostly be like the one you are planning to write. You have a strong point of view, just make sure you make the book intersting.

You know what would be really interesting and different?

A sankies success side of the story of what he had to do, the lies and deceptions in order to make a better life for himself, his family, his live in wife and 4 kids. ;) The long hours and days he had to endure with all kinds of women.

Now that is something we don't heard about. ;)

Title of the book could be;
How to get to America in four easy steps

How to get free stuff like sidipley and many other useful hints

I like this idea with all the insiders tips and hints..
The other part of the story is old as the street and really not that interesting..Kind of a long re-run with just different people..

A sankies point of view, and as you say how to get the free stuff, and all secrets...
I am sure it is a hard work behind, long hours with all the this practice to be able to say " I luuv yoo mi amor, mi har goes boomi boomi when I see yoo".... that comes before the sidipley and sellfon and the deeveedee....:ermm:

Sam, I think you have to go undercover and experience it first hand in order to really write about it. Think of it as part of the creative process.

How about a 20 year old woman named Sidney whose father is a well known millionaire. All her life, she has attended private girls' schools and her daddy even arranged private university classes. Right now, she is travelling around the world because she wants to find herself. When she went to the DR, she did not find herself, but what she did find was a 28 year old amimation fellow named Fernando who does the water areobics everyday. Because of his occupation, he has a buff body. He speaks English, French, Dutch, Italian and can speak a little bit of German.

Sidney arrived in the DR by private limo because, her father being a millionaire, was not going to take a comon tour bus to the resort. Fernando spotted her as soon as she got out of the car.

Fernando knows that he better act fast because right now he is training a potential sankie named Gregorio and he does not want Gregorio to get to her before he does. He approaches Sydney (of course after she has had some time to settle in----15 minutes is ample time) and says that he does not usually say this type of things to the guests at the resort but tells her how beautiful she is and how for the first time in a long time his heart galloped when he first saw her. Sidney is flattered..........

OK, someone else continue.......

Sidney is flattered. Although by all outside appearances her life has been a complete success, she knows that she has only been given what money can buy. Sidney really desires to be cared for without dollars signs attached. For the first time in her life she feels wanted for herself. She wonders if this is a beginning.............

Boring,
if I hear another story about some girl (rich or poor) meeting yet another animacion dude I'll be forced to jump off the balcony.:lick:

Just read the whole fricking sankie forum and lump them together. We need a different view point.

How about,
he was young, uneducated and needed to make money to attend school to be the first, lawyer, doctor in the family so he went in reach of a better life.

Naive as could be his friends told him he needed to get to where tourist vacationed. Not sure what that meant exactly he headed to the North coast from his little town of.......where he had never seen a foreigner.

Ok more.......

He tried being a waiter, he had a body of a god and the face of a little boy.

His friends kept saying with his looks he could do much better than being a waiter. But again he didn't know what they meant being from a small town.

Come on people add to this keep it going....

How about: "From Here to Maternity" The saga of a young, impressionable Canadian woman from rural Nova Scotia who takes up with a hotel animacion specialist and carries his child. She rears him in Atlantic Canada where he becomes a successful lobster fisherman and, at age 20, he comes to the DR to meet his father.

Over many Presidente's they decide to go into a fishing business together in the DR. They become enormously successful and send for the mother who had relocated to Newfoundland. When she arrives, her heart is immediately taken once again by the Dominican man and they create a new life of luxury on a hillside, not far from the fleet of boats.

The son marries a Dominican girl and they all live happily ever after, with many grandchildren coming along to inherit the fishing business.

It could happen.

I'm not a good writer so I'll put my idea in point form and maybe someone can put it together.

naive great looking guy maybe 21 meets his first tourist in the restaurant he works in.

she is 10 year older and worldly. she just wants to have fun

she takes him on a whirlwind adventure of going to all the best places in the DR, restaurants, theater, hotels and of course the best experienced sex partner he's ever known.

being young he falls in love with her but she has to return home to her executive job, she would love to take him, get him a visa but knows he would never fit in her life style and friends back in ........

she returns a couple more times to be with him and each visit is better than the next.

but she doesn't want to hurt him and can't tell him he could never fit in her world so she keeps promising they will be together one day soon.

the visits stop with one excuse or another, the phone calls go from every day to once a week and soon she stops calling.

he can't seem to find her and is now broken hearted and realizes he's been used for her amusement. She will never return, and will never go through with her promise of a life together.

His friends find him a job in a resort. They think that if he is surrounded by many women he will forget.

When in Rome...yada yada and that is where he perfects his life as a sankie and learns to take all that is available to him no matter who it hurts because he will never get over her.
