In a building in La estancia and I work remotely in apartment but I am having two issues i would love an English speaking professional to help me with
1. How to deal w the outages as far as internet and computer go
The building won’t allow the a satellite feed so starlink is not an answer
2 getting US TV on a dependable basis without satellite The building won’t allow it
3. Or. An apartment rental in puerta plato area that has these features. Generator and TV access
I need somebody who speaks English and can quarterback this. I have lived here for 20’years but want to be here permanently and need to be able to work and have access to USA info and programs. Nyc native

Is a battery inverter system possible in an apartment? If not move to an apartment with a generator.

Fiber optic connection is your best bet. CLARO or other local supplier of that.
2 getting US TV on a dependable basis without satellite The building won’t allow it
There are a number of IPTV solutions that provide a thousand channels or more. Use the latests Amazon Fire Stick with an APP or an IPTV box for that.
3. Or. An apartment rental in puerta plato area that has these features. Generator and TV access
Like my wife has renters doing all the time in Cabarete. People do that all the time.

Good luck from a NY native born person who has been here full time since 2003.

I too work remotely in Puerto Plata, have done so for years previously.

1. Need to have backup for both, internet connection and power supply. Power supply can be battery operated devices, UPS, inverter etc Implementation of this should be no issue.
2. I'm from the EU so not sure, but I would imagine you could transfer most channels via IP?

I speak fluent English and Spanish.

I really cannot think of any reason why not. We've done this many times in the distant past. Perhaps the only thing to consider is that the battery bank should not be inside the apartment if possible.

I work remote too. Should really move somewhere with a generator. As mentioned above, claro fiber optic.

However, a product similar to this would be useful: https://www.amazon.com/APC-Battery-...locphy=9021531&hvtargid=pla-354035472172&th=1

For tv shows and work, get a good VPN. I even got Hulu to work and its smooth enough for me to game through it as well. Only thing i can't fool is fanduel. I use nord and run it through my GL-AXT1800 router. Not a fun process to go through the first time but it's doable with mid-level tech skills.

A couple of comments, based on my experience. At least in POP area, I dare to say that generator is not obligatory. I've worked remotely in POP city now for close to decade and we've never had a generator. Inverter setup or UPS is smart though. We have currently none of that and are doing just fine.

Also, Claro may not be available everywhere, so putting this in general: Any reputable fiber optics connection. There are at least 1-2 local providers in Puerto Plata, but they don't really advertise themselves, so whenever we've moved in the past, the best advise is to ask your neighbors what connection they have. That's how we got our last 100mbs/50mbs fiber optics from TeleCableCentral. I did not even know about the company, turns out that their product and service were top notch. So check with neighbors.

These are the answers. You can also buy home battery banks now that you can plug into any outlet and plug your equipment into the bank and it works just as good as a local inverter/battery set up.

Around a hundred bucks with a solar panel.

And here's a power station available locally;

You can go way up to units that cost 3-4K and run your entire house for a day or two,.

What's worked well for me....

I use Delancer for internet, it's plugged in to a PriceSmart UPS so when power goes the device doesn't reboot in that gap between losing power and generator kicking in. Delancer seems to have really good on-prem UPS so they survive local power outages pretty well. I use Amazon Eero mesh devices for naked internet traffic (my work machines, smart devices, etc...), and then separately I have a vpn router (Asus router with Nord) that I connect my Roku devices to. This keeps geography-agnostic traffic off of the vpn connection....there's enough overhead there already. I use YouTube TV, Max, Apple TV, Prime, Hulu, and Peacock without issue.

Every mesh node is plugged into a UPS, in part to protect the device and also to ensure nothing drops when power cycles on/off. Going on 4 years now, this has worked really well (knock wood).

To be honest.... We are living in the year 2025. If you live somewhere were you don't get access to high speed internet and they want allow you to fix this issue with starlink etc. Move out and tell them to F... OFF

The most puzzling part of the OP's post is this;

2. Getting US TV on a dependable basis without satellite The building won’t allow it

That doesn't make sense.

And, how do you like La Estancia other than that?

I believe we have at least one another poster living exactly in La Estancia, they seem to be pretty happy...

We've been there multiple times, very nice area. And as I learned recently, they are not even with EDEnorte but get their supply from the Playa Dorada plant. Extra plus...

I hope I misunderstood something here? There are plenty of areas in very many countries that cannot provide high-speed connection in every spot, hence the success of Starlink?

Yes, La Estancia in POP is obviously not a campo, so in the OPs case Starlink should not be necessary, but just a general point.

Adding to this, we just returned from Telecable Central in POP, in an attempt to improve the internet connection (we were just using hotspots until now and I have work related video conferences coming up, so everything must work). So IF your area in POP is covered by them, then they are a good option and service is much faster than with Claro. Based on the coverage map and list:

La Estancia is not included for some reason, but you can ask, perhaps that is outdated. If they serve practically every other area in POP, barrios and residenciales included, not sure why would they exclude this particular area. They are slightly more expensive than Claro, but went for them as based in past experience, they outrank Claro in service by a lot.

Telecable Central is available in La Estancia, as is Claro. I live in La Estancia, and am happy all in all (nothing is perfect :)) Luckily the power doesn't go often or for long, but if relying on it to work from home, a backup of some kind makes sense, just as anywhere in the DR.
