In order to be a low cost carrier they need ONLY NEW planes and if they want to fly 50 internarional airports, thinking that there are 36 counties in the Western Hemisphere, it is a very loud announcement.
Negative. Allegiant started with used planes. Volotea same. We are not talking about operating new planes 10 years down the road, but to start up - they don't need factory new planes. But also 20 year old clunkers. What they need is "newish" by aviation standards, aircraft that went through the first round of leasing (usually 6-8 years) and are after their major D check done recently. Something like 8-10 year old planes are perfectly fine.
