A few months ago Santiago Matías released a new Dominican beer. It claims to be cheaper than Presidente. Since it has been in the Dominican market for less than a year, this beer is only sold in the DR.

What do expats think of República La Tuya?

Do you think it has a chance to give Presidente a real competition, considering that is the number one Dominican beer and it has been for decades?

I'm looking forward to trying it.
The last new beer was absolutely disgusting. I don't recall it's exact name but it was a brain child of the Remeri family which owns PUJ.
Hopefully this new one is better

Tastes like water mixed with a little Presidente. Many Dominicans that I know tried one just for the photo posting on Instagram , Snapchat, WhatsApp etc and then never drank another

I haven't seen it here in the Cabarete-Sosua area. Uno was horrible and so was Presidente Golden.
Bought 6 cans and a Red Bull and candy bar for 500 pesos today at Super Super. It is no very strong and its flavor on a scale of 1-10 would be 3.5.

I haven't seen it. I don't mind trying it though. Is it another Anheuser-Busch or Heineken product? Or an independent trying to make something happen.
That's great the search sources dr1.com, after Wikipedia.

Presidente is AB Inbev for years, La Republica Tuya is is from the Damm group (spanish brewery). It is just like the beers 809, Barcelo beer etc that came out the last couple of years, they brew it in another country and sell it here, but mostly in liqor markets, not in bars. , but untill now most of them don't last long.

I prefer the beers from the smaller breweries in Santo Domingo and Santiago etc, like Santo Domingo Brewing Company, Cibao Brewing Company, Dicayagua, verveceria Estrella, rupro brewing etc.

Over the holidays I had Presidente and Modelo in the fridge. Invariably, all the guests went for the Modelo first and then the Presidente lite.

I am the same with beer as I am food. See it , I eat it, see it I drink it. Wouldn't last more than two days in my fridge. Sirena has a buy to bottles of certain wines get one half price. I couldn't resist.
