The Ministry of Interior and Police announced guidelines for a new comprehensive initiative that seeks to improve motorcycle safety and reduce traffic fatalities. This comes in response to alarming statistics highlighting the role of motorcycles in both accidents and crime. Many similar measures have been announced in the past with minimal implementation.

The authorities have pledged to draft legislation for the helmet certification law and traffic training programs within the next six months, with the first awareness campaigns expected to launch in late 2025.

Announced at the First National Forum for Responsible Motorcycle Use, the proposals include a mandatory requirement for all new motorcycles sold in the Dominican Republic to come equipped with a certified protective helmet and proper registration from the Tax Agency (DGII).

This is much more ambitious than the sticker license plate on the helmet..

I am unsure what they'll do with Uber moto. I remember at the beginning when Uber moto started they had their own helmets for passengers (disgusting)

They won't make a dent until they start implementing Draconian measures.

Things like demand that motorcycles have ID/License plates.

If a motorcycle doesn't have them, impound and destroy—automatic 1 month imprisonment for the driver.

Saw the pics from the "Moto Forum" in LinkedIn. Too much theory and fancy suits which is totally opposite what the heat of the asphalt and no respecting the road rules and behaviour happens everyday.

It's all about education and enforcement, which none of both are applied daily by the majority of drivers (including motos).

They'd be better off establishing more impound yards. This won't make a difference at all. It will continue to be ignored as it has always been ignored.

The helmet sticker idea has already fallen apart. You hardly ever see one now, after just a couple of years, like so many other road safety projects. If only AMET would concentrate on catching drivers who do stupid, dangerous things rather than just concentrating on checking documents and helmets, the number of moto deaths just might decline.

Well they have educated 90% of people to pull over for ambulances now and that was certainly not the case in 2013.
90%?
More like 35% and of the other 65%, 90 % of them just drive like they hear nothing and what's left over just zoom in behind the ambulance like it's a traffic lead blocker giving them an express pass through a traffic jam. .

To hell with impound. Crush ever moto without papers and a 5000 peso fine for no helmet and crush on second offense
See post #3. Great minds think alike. Gotta make it hurt so they'll pay attention.
