The Superintendency of Electricity has ordered new increases in electricity rates. The increase comes just 90 days after the most recent hike on 1 January 2022. As people received their electricity bills in January there was an outcry over the increase. As so happened, if an electricity bill was, say for service between 3 December to 3 January, the January bill was priced at the new rate that began 72 hours before. All consumption in December was priced at the new rates.

And the same thing is happening as your read this. A 9% increase in your electricity bill will be there this month due, according to the Superintendennce of Electricity (SIE), to the “volatility of prices for coal, natural gas, oil, and the fuels used to produce electricity.” This increase will affect all consumers.

It should be noted that the most infamous Kwh on an electricity bill is 699 Kwh. Any...

Wouldnt be bad if you were getting 24 hour service.
Agreed. If it were reliable and the power crews didn't always knock down fiber and telephone lines when they do their work it would be much more acceptable.
But this will not set well with the average Dominican getting such sticker shock
Inflation always outpaces wage growth - making an ever increasing poor class

I'm gonna wait and see if the president announces in a day or two that this will not be put into effect.

Don't hold ya breath.
I remember last year several articles were published stating there will be no price increases due to the privitization of the CDEEE.
Anyone with half a brain saw right thru that bs. Strangely all of those articles now appear to have been scrubbed by Dominican Today as I couldn't locate not a single one of them in order to post a link.

Electricity cost were going to go up regardless of these lame ass excuses they are giving us now.

We'll be on par with Puerto Rico when all is said and done in a few more years. Say goodbye to the low cost of living and hello to the new normal.

Bought a property yesterday and paid cash. Lawyer said in August all real estate transactions will require a certified cheque for exact amount and everything will have to carried out bank acct to bank acct. This is so the government can gwt rhe full amount of transfer fees... etc.

Already set up, so all they're saying is all transfers of funds for real estate transactions will have to be online using bank apps. I'm guessing people will have to present the comprobante from the bank to get the name on the title changed.

We just received our bill with the slightly increased rates for the month of March... It did hurt a bit... Increase of about 600 pesos while our consumption only increased 10 kWh from the month before... Granted, February had fewer days than March...

We have close to no outages, but yes, we could definitely live without those as well...

It absolutely does.
Your streets will be repaved again starting around the middle of May 2024.
It was like that before, but not true now.

They have been repaving and paving dirt roads from day one.

I see you don't follow MOPC on FB or Instagram. They post pictures of their projects daily.
